My mother is under the impression that basics are not allowed to wear prescription contact lens during basic training. She claims they are forced to wear glasses. Is this true? I'm not complaining if it's the case, I'd wear a clown nose if they told me to...

Your mom is correct. Its way too dusty in Jack's Valley. You'll be issued glasses when you get there.

+1 on that. Nobody was allowed to wear contact lenses during BCT. I didn't even bring mine with me on I-Day--my folks brought them out for Parents' Weekend instead. If you need glasses, there is a prescription form you fill out on your portal (I imagine it's the same for this year, too), and they will issue you a pair when you arrive. Not the greatest looking glasses, but they get the job done, and most importantly, they don't break. You can wear contacts or civilian glasses (if they're in regs) after BCT.

Yes, you will be issued these lovely, charming, stylish glasses. BCT glasses. Look up on web guy the pictures from past BCTs and you'll see... I'm sure you can't wait. :)

True. BCT, especially at Jacks Valley, is very dusty/dirty. You do not want get an eye infection due to poor contact hygiene. BCT tends to suck the common sense out of basics, so the AF made a rule to protect them.

In some circles (not fencermother's, mind you), these are also known as "Birth Control Goggles." Mind your Ps&Qs out there.

The glasses they issue now are just plain black frames. They aren't huge like they used to be, and a lot of people still wear them. I even see upperclassmen still wearing them frequently.
