I sent in my application to VMI yesterday and was just wondering about an essay. I had read on this forum somewhere that there was an optional essay. I could find no such essay in the application. If I am serious about going to VMI, should I send an essay seperate from the application?

I was also wondering about there being no reccomendations on the application?

One other thing: about how long will it take to receive and admissions decision since I sent the application only 3 days after it opened? They have already received my SAT scores and my transcripts will be faxed Tuesday. Also, when I applied to the Citadel, I had to get my guidance counselor to fill out a form (and print out a request for transcripts form to be attached to my transcripts) to send with my transcripts. Is there any such thing that I have overlooked for VMI?

Look under the required supplementary paperwork tab on the application page. You should do a personal statement. That is the essay. Your school counselor also needs to provide a recommendation

There is no required supplementary paperwork tab or personal statement pag on my app. Do you think this is because I applied using a pin number, making the process easier?

Not sure

Go to the application page on the VMI website. You will find the tab there. You can down load the required forms to your computer and email them to admissions.

Go to this page and expand the two first tabs: "The Application" and Required Forms for Complete Application", and download those. You will see that a personal statement is highly recommended though not absolutely required. "Highly recommended but not required" seems to me to be code for: "we want to see if you really want to come here or are just going thru the motions and won't go out of your way to do so" So my advice- write the essay, and Good luck. http://admissions.vmi.edu/apply/application-forms/#toggle-id-1
