CGA suspends intercollegiate varsity and club sports for the fall of 2020. https://uscgasports.com/general/2019-20/releases/20200717g5x5ll
Oh geez, heck no! Our JV soccer team had to play NAPS... aka, D1 level soccer players.... it was not pretty.... NOOOOOT PRETTY.
I'm not sure if they did this when you were a cadet - but the football team started an annual tradition of playing a Division II team (Hampden-Sydney College) my 2/c year. It was NOT PRETTY.
It's a shame about fall sports, especially as I was interested to see where USCGA football would go given Coach George's retirement this year and Coach Grant taking the reigns as head coach (the Voice of the PFE for all of those who don't do - his push up cadence recording still triggers unwelcome 5th Deck flashbacks).
I've always advocated for CGA football to start playing high schools or middle schools (do middle schools have football teams?) but it hasn't happened yet.
I graduated just before they switched to the cadence pushups. 5th deck.... the place to go to feel like throwing up.... immediately getting dry throats. I just remember the look in Coach Grant's eyes when he caught your eyes in personal defense and decided you would be the next dummy to make an example of.... I made the mistake of saying "oh ****" once when that happened, and he said "oh yes, definitely you." It hurt. HAHAHA.
I do not miss seeing Bill George done. They never mentioned the record while he was coach, showing some people have a heart.
Many thanks for resurrecting this thread and almost giving me a heart attack!!I'm resurrecting this because I can't NOT comment on the accuracy of your personal defense story. My own are particularly honed in on the pressure points lessons. 5th deck...literally nothing good happen there, from swab summer workouts, to PFEs, to final exams and foul weather changes of the watch. Nothing.
