No interview? Bad news?

As per another post someone recommended that my son reach out to his AO and be proactive to request an interview (he shines in interviews). The AO essentially said what I would refer to as “don’t call us we’ll call you”. Is that a bad sign that they aren’t interested? His friend who applied to USNA already had an interview. Any advice? Thanks!

It probably means that the AO had received one too many phone calls from impatient candidates that day.

I wouldn't worry about it. Have your DS focus on the things he has control of: finishing strong in his classes, preparing for another SAT/ACT, and staying fit.

From what I was told some candidates will receive interviews and some will not. This also applies to accepted candidates. It was written somewhere that they are requested if the admissions board needs “amplifying information.” I submitted my application September 30 and I had the opportunity to interview about a week ago. If your applicant submitted his application within the days right before the deadline than it is mixed in with hundreds of other applications so it may be a bit of time before the staff and volunteers are able to interview.

A 32 on the ACT is good and if the other areas are strong (fitness exam above 200 and leadership experience) than it is likely they will receive an interview based on the info my admissions officer provided about interviews.

At this time when AOs are swamped with applications, I'm not sure it was the best idea reaching out and essentially asking for an interview. If they think and interview is required then they will request one in due course.

Good Evening! Candidates, or parents, could potentially make themselves crazy trying to figure out what might, or might not, be a positive sign. Some applicants will already be familiar to the Academy - via campus visitation programs, recruiting, etc. - and some won't. They may have a plethora of reasons for asking for an interview. While Some candidates have already received appointments, many are still waiting for their news. As it is a "Holistic Review" each case will probably be very different. Hang in there - one way or the other, they are almost at the finish line! Regardless the result, all of these well qualified candidates will be very successful wherever they land. Be encouraged!
