Should I be concerned that I haven't received an LOE or an LOA at this point in the game; it seems that an inordinate amount of kids on the forum got them.

Also, if you don't have a primary nomination (I.e. Unranked/alternate), what academic achievements (class rank, ACT scores, GPA, extracurriculars, etc) would make you a competitive candidate in the national nomination pool?

Don't stress the LOE/LOA thing. West Point doesn't give out nearly as many as the other Academy's from what I've seen. The majority of those who'll receive an appointment won't have either statistically I believe so no cause for concern. As for achievements, I'd look at class profiles from several years and research their Whole Candidate Score (WCS) system to see what you can improve on and gain more points.

+1 army2021. The class profile is easily available and what matters is your whole person score, not what letter you may or may not have received.

The class profile goals will show the majority will not have an LOA, LOE or prin NOM. This the most difficult part, the waiting. Hang in there!

If you look at previous years, you'll notice the number of folks on this forum account for roughly 10% of the actual class size. There are many more candidates who get in, but don't announce their status on this forum for a variety of reasons. Although those who do may appear to have a large percentage of LOA/P-NOMS, it is a tiny slice of the overall class make-up. As previously stated, most don't get in with LOA/P-NOM. I haven't heard of anybody receiving preferential treatment because they had an LOA/P-NOM...besides maybe being notified earlier...but someone has to be first to get in and someone has to be last. If anyone thinks getting in with an LOA/P-NOM gives them any advantage at the SA, then I'm sure there are plenty on this forum, and there'll be plenty at the SA's, who will convince you otherwise.

My yuk never got an LOA or an LOE...try to enjoy your senior year. Within the next 2 months, you should know where you stand.

We were told by liason officer that the LOA's are mostly recruited athletes and minority students. Not sure if that is true or not.

In general that is true, but I would also add very strong candidates. LOA's are up to RC's so distribution/criteria of LOA's is not consistent around the country. USMA does not give nearly as many LOA's as other academies.

My son's application was complete as of one week ago. He has 3 nominations (1 Representative, 1 Senator, and 1 ROTC Distinguished Unit). His admissions officer says his file is strong and he is considered a recruited athlete. Any idea what to expect on a timeline for an appointment? It seems that the process for athletes is a little quicker from what I've read. Any insight is appreciated.

He certainly sounds like a strong applicant, but nomination does not equal appointment. I hope he gets one, but nothing is automatic.

If your son is a recruited athlete, he should be working with the "recruiting coordinator." That person should be able to help you through this process. If you have questions about this, please PM me.
