What does it mean for me if I haven't received a LOA? I have had my file complete since October 1.

Most people don't get LOAs. If your file is complete, congrats; you did this correctly. Now, enjoy your senior year and play the waiting game. You have a 3(ish) month wait for any news.

USMA does not use rolling admissions and therefore does not give out as many LOA's as USNA. Not having an LOA for USMA is not significant - it puts you in the same pool as most of the future entering class is right now.

LOA's stopped being sent out on September 30.

LOA's can go out until they are done with the admissions cycle, but they become more rare starting in January. Last year the admissions board used LOA's in January, before offering an appointment to the principal nominee on a congressional slate, for organizational purposes. Don't worry about having an LOA, it does not matter when you arrive at the Academy and are surrounded by 1,200 equal plebes.

How do you know if you received a LOA? Is there certain language? Does a communication have large LOA letters on it? What would standard language be in/on a LOA?

LOA is Letter of Assurance. It means a seat or appointment is set aside for them. But it is conditional. You still must complete your file in time, receive a NOM, maintain academic standards. You will receive a letter or message through your portal stating as such and offered an over night visit.

I received my LOA in early October, and I received an email from admissions that sounds like this "Dear ______, We are pleased to advise you that the Admissions Board has recommended you for admission to the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 2021. You are guaranteed an offer of appointment if your remaining admissions requirements are satisfactorily met." Etc. The subject line just said something along the lines of "application status change" and my portal was updated to "LOA" at the same time I received the email.

My DD received an LOA in the mail, but her status was never changed on the portal. Should I be concerned?

If you read mvgerdes' post, his LOA is from USNA. My friend also received an LOA and he was notified through email. I received my LOA from USMA and it only came through the mail, and my portal was not updated.

Back to the question in point, statistically speaking not having an LOA is normal. There are too many factors to say if there is something wrong with your file.

My daughter got an LOA. Less than a month after she completed her admission requirements she received her appointment.
But as pointed out, it's not unusual to not get one.
