No nomination - but still pending

There's probably no good answer here, is this a potentially positive sign, or am I just waiting for the guillotine to come down in 30 days or so? Hate to be logical, but it seems that apps without a nomination would be cleared out pretty quickly. Admissions did ask for my complete HS course description about a month ago, so maybe at least there's some interest. I know direct entry is virtually impossible at this point but maybe I have a chance at NAPS, or is this typical where they will depth charge rejects at the very end.

Yeah if they asked for your courseload while it was obvious you have no nomination I would say that’s a good sign. They have been going through and sending out TWEs to people with failing CFAs, Board disqualified, or no nominations. And so I’d say they probably are considering a spot for you!

It absolutely isn’t over yet. Are you aware of the discretionary noms that USNA holds? To assign to people just like you (no nom)?

And perhaps you are a NAPS/prep candidate…no idea.

But it’s not over until it is.

Remember: April 15. Any earlier is early. Your date is April 15.

I know there are discretionary noms, but to be honest I am still so confused with the whole process. It’s pretty foreign for somebody with no SA experience. Really trying to just keep it positive and let it happen. We have a family friend who is Class of ‘01 and after initially thinking he was turned down, was offered a spot 1 week before I-Day. So we know you have to be super flexible and open minded.

Imo, trying to understand the process adds to stress. It’s not meant to be transparent and understood. We aren’t part of that. We just wait to be told ‘yes/no/waitlist’

My youngest was pulled off the waitlist mid May. He had already moved on to plan B. Planned his room, bought some furniture. Prepared his graduation slides for that school. Bought gear. Purchased a meal plan. Moved on. It was freeing. And then, the appointment.

I suggest this to all my candidates who are waiting. It’s hard, especially for kids brought up in the ‘instant’ generation. The SA’s have a way of doing things that works. It’s just how it is. And the more we know about it, the more stressful it can be.

Try to pivot to your alternate plan. Stay off your portal. Let the forums go. You won’t miss anything. And good luck! You aren’t out onto you are. And even then, you can reapply. Every year a significant part of the class are reapplicants.

^ This . There is a reason that USNA tells Candidates that "most" will know by April 15 -- any expectation beyond that is self created.

We have a family friend who is Class of ‘01 and after initially thinking he was turned down, was offered a spot 1 week before I-Day.
^ And that is why USNA says "most". There are exceptions to every rule, and countless stories about people getting an appointment at the very last minute. That's why people here will say you are in the hunt, until you are not !

Thanks for asking the question! I've been wondering the same thing as DD also has no nomination for USNA. She had a similar experience where they reached out recently for more information on one piece of her candidate file.

Yes. The VP can only be charged to 5 people at the Academy at any given time (like an MoC).

The VP noms are fully at the discretion of the Academy, and they decide who gets them. They also determine if those people will be charged to the nom source for their appointment.

I personally know of someone who has been given a VP nom for this cycle. They were informed directly by the Noms and Appointments team. Whether or not they will be appointed using the VP source, I do not know. But, they had no other noms associated with them.
