Hello,

My DS has an MOC nomination to the USNA and the USMA. He was hoping to get a nomination from the Senator as well. He received a letter today from the Senator stating that he didn't receive a nomination but that he was recommending him for an ROTC scholarship to the Adjutant General and Governor and that he would be contacted. ROTC is plan B and he has already applied so does his recommendation help? This is all new to me so any information would be helpful.

Thank you

He only needs one nomination, so if he has his MOC nomination in place, the Senator may have allocated his slate to applicants without any nomination. No need to worry if a nomination has been secured. I hope this answers your question?

I appreciate your help. Yes, my DS is thrilled to have the nominations from his MOC and I do realize that he only needs the one. Although, I have read that it does help to secure as many nominations as possible. I guess I was curious if anyone ever had a Senator state that although they did not give them a nomination, they have been recommended for an ROTC scholarship to the Adjutant General and the Governor of the State of Indiana. He would be contacted to explore opportunities available in the Indiana Army National Guard. What does that actually mean? My DS has applied for an ROTC scholarship but this is something different.

I would post that question on the ROTC forum. It sounds like SMP, I am an AFROTC Mom, so take that with a grain of salt.

Indiana,

I suggest you post on the ROTC forum. From the little I know SMP is a hybrid scholarship. Basically they will enlist, do ROTC and college like any other kid, and at the end of the 4 yrs they are commissioned, but I do not know if they go directly to Guard or they can do AD.

Like I said, it is best to post over there. Ohio parent has a DS doing SMP right now.

Indiana,
Hi fellow Hoosier! Keep in mind too by not duplicating nominations more of our Indiana kids have a shot at an appointment. You only need one and maybe another Hoosier will get the chance to go with your DS. Although my DS did not know his fellow Hoosier (future classmate )from way across town and diferent school districs they now have formed a unique hometown style relationship. A good friend to have indeed is someone who really gets where you are from.
Good luck!
