Should I have gotten a notice of an update to my portal for the added nomination? I just checked and my nomination has been added but I didn't get anything from the academy about it.

We never got a portal notification, nor a letter. It just showed up. Congressional nomination.

I’m guessing they leave the nomination notification to the MOC. DS did get congrats email from two of them. Then after week or so noms showed up in portal. In the case of 3Q, DS did get official correspondence email from WP admissions of portal change “candidate file qualified”

I meant to add not sure if all SA’s handle this the same.
I don't believe USAFA sends out 3q letters, they just tell you whether you are competitive or not. If you aren't competitive you don't get past the precandidate phase. After that I think you are 3q if you have medical and cfa done.

There are others on this board that can certainly provide more clarity than me - based on information from USAFA, I don't think anyone with a CFA, who passed the pre-candidate phase, and DoDMERB, is considered competitive. If that was the case, then anyone with a completed CFA who was DQ'd would receive a waiver request, and we certainly know that's not the case. Additionally, it's not a static decision as you can see in the DoDMERB threads - USAFA may not request a waiver one month, but they might the next, so it's not just checking a box, it depends. My understanding is that USAFA never formally communicates whether or not you are competitive. One can infer if they request a waiver, but again, that can change.

Competitive is just the word usafa admissions uses to say whether or not your grades meet the bare minimum standard. They tell you if you don't I believe.

True. I remember when my DS and I were discussing the difference between "competitive" in the early stages (i.e.pre-candidate) and what they consider "competitive for an appointment."
