Hey everyone,
I have a question about the pre candidate application and test scores. I just took the SAT for the first time on Saturday, so I won't get my scores till next month. Even if I do, I want to prepare even more and take it again in June, since I'm not feeling too confident about this one. Would not having (good) test scores in sooner affect my possibility at moving to candidate status? I know a lot of people will probably discredit me for not testing earlier, of which I've heard a lot. I understand, and wish I could change it, but I can't. I just fear that this would affect my chances of appointment as a whole. Any insight? Thank you for all your help.

I took my SAT the June before my senior year and it didn't delay the change in my status from applicant to candidate. My change in status actually came before I submitted my test scores. You should be fine!

That just gave me so much relief. Thank you!

Also, you will able to update scores even after you have submitted the pre-can application. Expect to have to send "official" test scores this summer.

Did you request scores be sent to SA when you took the test? You can usually designate 3 or 4 colleges to automatically receive scores from that test no charge. If not create your account at SAT website and pay $12 or whatever it is to have your scores sent to USAFA.

Your guidance counselor can help you here, sometimes there is a grace period after test day during which you can still set up the free score reports.

Correct....9 days, because DS took SATs this past weekend and we plan on adding some schools today since you can send up to 4 for free.

Well, just make sure you keep your head up. If you have submitted your precandidate questionnaire you won't be promoted to candidate until summer-ish. The thing that had me the most nervous about my application was my SAT scores (I got an 1190). But the best advice I got was to take it at least 3 times. First time just take it and see where you stand. Second time focus on Math, then third focus on Reading and Writing. Just do your best and don't forget it's a WHOLE PERSON CONCEPT. Best of luck and AIM HIGH!

You could take the SAT again in May, June, August, October, November, and even December, and those test scores will be released before the deadline for completing your application (usually last day of January, unless you have an early application deadline). Regardless, you could have College Board send your SAT scores to USAFA, and your portal will be updated to list all the scores you have sent. You really have plenty of time to prepare and retake the SAT a number of times if you're not happy with your performance on the March exam.
