Nom + Loa

Wisconsinomma, I think you have singlehandedly ended the wisdom teeth debate! I am sure there is a wisdom teeth thread please add on as you will undoubtedly be called to do so again and again!

Now someone with a bad TWIC card story needs to chime in and assure the newcomers that , yes, even if it is out of state and it requries two trips, get the darn thing before, that is if they even will require it again this year. ,

TWIC is "still the law of the land" and getting it is necessary so I'd just go ahead and get it. What's the worst thing that could happen if you already have it?

sailor94- go to the Open House

Thank you very much. Does anybody know when accepted students should begin to hear what we need to do, like the wisdom teeth and TWIC, from the academy?

Sailor94; You will hear about things gradually (like the TWIC and wisdom teeth). My BEST advice is like I said above, GO TO THE ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE. They will answer all of you ?'s (and then answer more things that you have not even thought about yet!). Also, hopefully you have an active Parents Assoc in your area- they will help baby step you (and parents) through the process. Join your 2017 student fb group (I dont' think it's been started yet) and I do know the parent 2017 face book group is being constructed and will be up and running very soon. (There will be a post on the forum when those are up and running). All of these communication and support groups will be actively up and running soon... and within 3-5 months will be VERY active~~~ so make sure you've joined fb groups, joined your parents assoc, attended the Admissions Open House at the USMMA, and read all incoming communication from the Academy. And yes, get the wisdom teeth out. Sometimes it takes up to 6 weeks to get the TWIC processed (and yes, it takes 2 trips). We had to drive to the next state- so if you want to, get going on that now. You will HAVE to have it done... so it will benifit you to get it done asap. (may I ask what state are you from?)

Thank you, I will make sure to do all of those. I am from Connecticut and New Haven has a small port, but if not Newark is only a two hour drive and I am fairly confident I can get my TWIC from there.

Parents Assoc.

Sailor94; There are wonderful Parents Assoc. in your area and they will eventually be contacting you. There will also be a Welcome Aboard Picnic held by your Parents Assoc. prior to INDOC starting- (typically it's about a week or two before INDOC starts). I recommend joining your Parents Assocation and attending the picnic. Congrats Again and Welcome Aboard!

Do you know how I find the Parent's Association or get in touch with them?

Sailor94: Congrats, like aooga15 says if at all possible I recommend you and you parents go the upcoming admissions open house, even if you've already visited USMMA for either an overnight or day visit. The other information in the last entering class' "Logging In Book" should be a good place to start to understand what will be expected of you and what you'll need to bring when you report for INDOC - though as noted there always seem to be little changes each year for all sorts of normal reasons. Things do change and the system has to be adjusted to accomodate them.

That said I doubt the two items covered: wisdom teeth (as a USMMA Cadet - you don't want them....) and TWIC (as a US Merchant Marinier - you'll need one). That said I'd look at all the available info and ask admissions questions as much as possible before doing things.

Also as noted your area has both active, informed and helpful local Parents Associations and Alumni Chapters - both will welcome you and your parents with open arms.

As far as the TWIC goes there are three enrollment centers in Connecticut: Bridgeport, New Haven and New London. To get information about TWIC and start that process one goes here first on the web:

https://twicprogram.tsa.dhs.gov/TWICWebApp/

The process takes some time so assuming you need to have one when you report to INDOC, my recommendation is don't wait for the last minute.

Once agai congratulations and good luck on thenext leg of your journey.:thumb:

TWIC in CT

Last year we were able to get TWIC card in Branford. It was in the basement of a hotel.

While the rest of the family went to our normal spring break family vacation DS and I stayed home. We had the wisdom teeth removed on Monday. On Thursday we drove to our neighboring state to have appointment one of the TWIC process. Appointment is over-stating it a bit. We were there for 5 minutes, tops. We handed in forms, wrote a check and had a ID picture taken. Lunch on the river and a nice day and time with DS was well worthy the drive.
We waited until after the last day of school to drive back for TWIC card pick up. Call and double check the hours of the office you are planning to use. The slower offices may only be open a half day on certain days. The website did not state that fact when we checked it. I only found that out after I called the location personally. Check and double check if you have a long drive or if airline tickets are involved.
It is funny to see ds's TWIC card as his jaws were still swollen in the picture.

2017 parent face book page is up and running

Do you know how I find the Parent's Association or get in touch with them?

Sailor94, you can go ahead and try to get a hold of your Parents Assoc in your area, but don't worry in case you can't figure out how to get a hold of them.... in approx 2-4 months should be contacting you.

ALSO... GREAT NEWS... the USMMA Class of 2017 Parents Face Book page is UP and Running. A wonderful group of 2016 parents are the administrators of the group... this will be your parents umbilicle cord to the academy and to you once you are in school! Many parents never did face book before.. and that is OKAYYYYYYY..... it is essential that they join. The link to the sight is;

Every admitted student that will be in the class of 2017 needs to make sure to have their parent(s) join this group. There will be kindness and support, INDOC hints, TWIC information, hotel and taxi suggestions, tons and tons of photos posted as the year progresses... etc etc etc. It's just a "must do thing". :thumb:

True, my error.

That said, as I understand it the exact locations change from time to time and if for planning purposes you are just looking to see where you will ultimately have to go, etc. as you go through the enrollment process; the TWIC contractors operate the website I posted and maintain this webpage with the current active enrollemnt center locations listed Alphabetically by "Port Name":

http://www.twicinformation.com/twicinfo/schedule.jsp

Clicking through on the port name gets you to a page with the center's address, operating hours and also directions and map of the location.

Turns out the TWIC Centers for Bridgeport & New Haven have been consolidated into the Branford, CT enrollment center that is operated at:

TWIC Enrollment Center
Holiday Inn Express
309 East Main Street
Branford, CT 06405

and their operating hours are:

Friday: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM .

The port of New London TWIC Center is actually in Uncasville, CT at:

TWIC Enrollment Center
Best Western Cristata Inn
2255 Norwich New London Turnpike
Uncasville, CT 06382

and open the following hours:

Thursday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

But the website is maintained and as locations and operating hours are changed/adjusted I'd refer back to the website and schedule an appointment to make sure someone is there to serve you.
