I received my congressman's nomination this morning, and was wondering about how long will it be now until I find out if I will receive an appointment or not. Everything is complete, including Dodmerb and college transcripts. Thanks!

There is no set answer to this question. If you are the clear top of your congressman's slate, and other candidates on the same slate have already completed their application process, you could hear very soon that you are receiving an appointment. On the other hand, the decision could be less clear cut, where you aren't the top candidate of the slate and become part of the national pool of alternates. In that case, it is anybody's guess when you could hear back, while keeping in mind that the majority of decisions are made in the month of March, with some earlier and many later (April). How's that for a vague answer? ;)

Anything helps! I received a call from him this morning and he seemed quite confident in my file, but I am not sure where exactly I fall on his slate.

Some of the appointments started to come out already. Last year some appointments trickled out during the month of January to Mid February. The bulk of the appointments came out during the month of March. It's just a long waiting game from now on. Good Luck to you.

Some even get notified in June!

DS received a portal update on Jan 18, 2017 that he had a nomination to USAFA. On March 9, 2017, he received a call from the Congressman that nominated him. The phone call was short as all he did was congratulate DS on getting a nomination to USAFA. Based on our research on this forum, we were expecting a portal update the next week with an appointment notification. Sure enough, 5 am on March 15, 2017, DS received an email that he had a portal update. The celebration was huge as he opened his portal and saw the appointment.

To all you parents and candidates out there, please don’t go crazy with announcing your appointment. This time of year lots of cadets watch social media and YouTube for possible “stand out” Basics. There’s already been one that every Cadet knows his name, especially his soon to be cadre
A large suggestion from a senior at USAFA, keep your posting on social media to a minimum (share to family and friends), watch the group you join for your BCT class (upperclassmen make fake ones), and change your privacy settings on social media to friends only.
In the military, we are taught to lock everything down for security reasons, it’s never too early to start.
Also you may not want to draw extra attention to yourself on I-Day

Good luck to everyone. This place has its ups and downs, but I’m proud to soon say I came from here.
Class of 2018 ZAMP!
