Hey everyone. Right now, Im a little confused. I realize that I need to include 3 letters of recommendations for one of my nomination applications. I have one application already, but the other two applications are on the Common App for all the other colleges that I plan to apply to. In order for me to view the letter of recommendations and for me to be able to include them in the nomination application packet, I would have to deny the right to waive my FERPA. The problem though, is that its not recommended to view your letters of recommendation on the common app, because your letters are supposedly more trust worthy if you don't view them. So what do I do? Thanks.

Why don't you just ask three people that know you well each write a letter of recommendation? If they have already written it, simply ask them to re-print and sign with the appropriate nomination source's address. I would wager if you explained the purpose, they should have no issue with it. If they do, maybe they are not the right person to be doing the LoR.

Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.

Also, they could give you the LOR in a sealed envelope addressed to the MOC and you can include it with you nomination package.

What 5Day suggested should be standard operating procedures regardless of whether your MOC states they want all documents in one mailing. Make it easy on you and the service academy coordinator by having all nominating documents sent in one large envelope (sealed recommendations letters can be stuffed in the larger envelope)...that way when the coordinator receives it...they can process and file it immediately. Make sure to have copies of everything submitted and ease of access to your LOR writers in case the package gets lost in the mail.

My DS had LORs specifically for military academies and others specifically for "regular" colleges. Each academy is a bit different with what they want (English Teacher, Math Teacher...) I be he had a dozen. Luckily these people helped him out.

Same with my son. I think it's smart - the ones for USNA highlighted the specific things it looks for - leadership, success in adversity, etc.

It's been a few years now--but I believe our DS requested those writing him LOR to write 4 or 5: 1 for USNA, 1 for each senator, and 1 for our district rep--then if needed additional ones for his back up universities. Those writing the LOR's tagged who each of their letters were for.
