Nomination Error?

Tough situation. So sorry. If you were my candidate, I would tell you to contact the Reps office again and tell them that the USAFA app deadline has passed. Just see what they say. They may not can do anything, but you will never know if you don't ask.

Other things to consider-
- as stated above, there is always the VP but realize that there is only one (maybe 2) VP noms to be awarded.
- Next decide it you would be perfectly happy going the AROTC route or is WP really your dream. If you really want WP - go to college for a year and apply next year. Enroll in AROTC. Take classes that mimic WP Plebe year. You will have to apply again for a nom, but possibly with a successful semester of college under you belt, you might be in a better place for a nom. And if you are in AROTC you will be eligible for the AROTC nom.
Good luck :thumb:

All good recommendations. I whole-heartedly support contacting the congressman's office again and informing them of the situation. Sometimes a congreeman CAN move heaven and earth especially if they sit on particular committees. That's why they call them "movers and shakers", right?

Interesting about the transfer after a year of college. Does this mean the cadet has less than 4 years at WP, or simply that the cadet has validated out of many first year classes but still must be in residence at WP for the full four years?

Everyone does 4 years (at least as I understand it). They may validate out of some classes. Maybe even a bunch of classes in which case they'll be able to "squeeze" in more electives.

As Kinnem says, everyone does 4 years at West Point and will carry a full load. Their is no such thing as a transfer to WP. The classes they validate will place them into more advanced classes.

I applied for a nomination from my congressman for West Point. I was told that I received a nom for the Air Force Academy, I mentioned to the interview panel that I only applied for West Point and made sure they knew that. My congressman told me today that I needed to open up a file to the AFA immediately so I can get the nomination. I went to open up a file for the AFA and the portal says that the online application has been closed since December 31st. I’m at a loss for word right now and I have no idea what to do. West Point has been my number one and I have no idea about the AFA Someone please give me some advice because my mind is racing right now.

Thank You,
TheUnderdog

Did you contact your congressman and, if so, what did he tell you? This situation is really unsat on the part of USAFA and should be corrected. Things like this happen every year. A MOC will have an opening at another Academy and not be able to know who he wants to fill it with until after the interviews. Also, every year there will be candidates who did not know that applications were required to BOTH the MOC and to the academies. What if a MOC submitted a principal candidate on January 31, the MOC deadline, of which AFA had no record? AFA application initial submittal deadline is indeed January 31. However, they defeat the entire purpose of the the process by requiring a PRELIMINARY on-line application December 31.

Let us know what happened. Enquiring minds want to know.

I spoke with my congressman, and I was told "Sorry" and that there was nothing I could do. I mentioned that I did say during the interview that I had only applied to West Point and had not applied to anywhere else. So since I was out of luck with getting a nom for West Point, I figured I would call the AFA and tell them my situation. Turns out no luck there either, I was told that since the class size was being decreased that there would be no exceptions. I relayed this to my congressman and the reply was the same, they could do nothing. So with no nomination as of now (unsure when VP noms come out and if I will received one) and no shot at direct admission, I am hoping for a USMAPS slot.(waiting to hear back from RC) If I do not receive that, then the choice is ROTC at a state school and reapplying next year.

Don't know if this has been mentioned... but there is ONE service Academy which doesn't require Nominations... I'm not sure if the deadline's passed but CGA is always an option.
