DS has three nominations (Congressman, Senator, ROTCS). In all three cases, he was notified by letter, email, or online. Is there a reason why some candidates receive phone calls and others do not? Wondering if this has something to do with principal vs non-principal nominations?

My boys both received their congressional nominations with a letter then a ceremony for the actually nomination certificate. Down who received a senatorial nomination received his with no notification in the mailbox. It was completely unexpected and just amazing.

One son received his BFE in the mailbox with a package pick up at the post office as we live rurally. The other son received a phone call from the Ohio senator who nominated him and the BFE a few days later.

Edited to add: Not sure one means more than another. One had an LOE and the other no extra perks but both appointed in January.

Nothing means nothing. It means each MOC can do whatever they want. Don’t infer anything. My youngster had a principal nom, no notification at all, he noticed it in his portal. He only knew it was a principal bc admissions told him.

MOC’s can do however they want, and also different each year. No rhyme or reason.

USMA admission gives MOC's 72 hours to contact an appointee personally before USMA informs the appointee.

Some MOC's make a point of contacting every appointee either personally or by a staff member. Some just let USMA do it. Some fall in between and make what calls they have time for.

Even if you do not have a nomination from your Congressman or Senators--say you have a Presidential Nom--the congressman is notified 72 hrs in advance with the option to tell the candidate the good news about an appointment. (Seriously, not good enough for a nom, but good enough for a phone call at the time of appointment...we were mystified--and thankful--and mystified.)

I am also applying to the Ohio Senators as well. When did your DS receive one from their Senators?

My son only learned of the congressional nominee by email from USMA field officer.

DS got an email on 11/23 (2 weeks exactly from his interview date) as he was headed to one of his Senatorial interviews. Letter arrived yesterday and ceremony is on Friday. I think all offices have a different way of handling the process and no two are the same. It's baffling, but I think that's by design!

My son was called by his MOC. He also interned for him, so that could be why he chose to call him. Honestly, our MOC is such a nice guy he probably took the time to call all of the kids he nominated.

I just got a nomination earlier today from my representative. Yay! It showed up as a green check on the USMA portal. I think I may get a letter or email about it later.
