Greetings and Happy New Year's Eve,

To frame the Q: I have an LOA and a nom is my last req, I have no experience with any academy and nobody I know has gone through one, and I attempted to search for a similar topic on this forum already.

I recieved the good news call from my congressman's staffer back in mid December and, my apologies if I'm being impatient, I don't know the usual timeframes but I have not received mail, portal update, or anything from anyone yet. So, are long wait times with nominations and processing in the norm?

My bad there is a recent post "Notification of Appointment" where a mother explained her child's timeframe. But the question still stands if someone has some extra knowledge to bestow.

I would suspect that this is peak time for many Nom's getting put into portals. Many Noms strive to send their slates by the end of December. And plus with the holidays, I would think staffing would be very busy RN. I wouldn't be surprised if things started moving for you in January. It is so hard to be patient! But you HAVE the nom. Congrats!!

Having been on the USNA staff, it’s also hard to take leave or PTO unless you take it the same time as the mids. After the Army-Navy game, and as soon as exams are over, the Yard goes very quiet.

I predict the pace will pick up this week. There’s also the usual office cold/flu going around, so people may be out sick. And there are not massive numbers of people in Admissions doing these tasks. It’s also very painstaking work to ensure accuracy of updates - think of the bulk of data, applications in all stages, incoming updates from nom sources, DODMERB-related inputs and waiver updates, building the NAPS/prep list, answering questions, running reports on how the class is building out to date...

Congratulations! You are in great shape. DS has been Complete Pending Review since August!

Now that’s patience! Since your DS is a competitive candidate with Nom should hear from the Academy in Mid Jan-Mid Feb with all the priority candidates. Those who have Appointment already are service related Noms based on many posts here. Very few are Sen/Congressional Noms. After the first Appointment release candidates get called through May.

I know a graduate who had a very competitive package. He went to SLE at USMA and Summer Seminar at USAFA but didn’t have Sem/Congressional Nom. He got called from WP with VP Nom to accept or decline during the call in mid May 2012. He had paid a deposit to Carnegie few weeks before but ended up taking the VP Nom to WP. He’s graduated since and now doing his second year in Germany in Transportation Branch. Prior to Germany he was in Korea as a Platoon Leader delivering Packages to the front and rear. He’s a happy man just got married and took his fiancé to Germany few months ago. There’s Happy ending for many Cadets who hurry up and wait.

Thank you! Best of luck to your son, I'm not particularly exceptional I just live in an underrepresented area and am a minority. That's the basis I assume I got an LOA on.

I'm sure you got an LOA because you are an outstanding future Naval Officer who wants to serve your Country! Be proud of what you've accomplished!

Yes sir I am not denying that I would have gotten an appointment anyways because I am dedicated to being a Midi, and the LOA did help to refocus me in a time of need, so I am not refusing it by any means.
