Nomination question

My DS received an LOA a few weeks ago with the only outstanding requirement being to obtain a nomination. He got the call from our congressman last night that he got the nomination. Awesome news and exciting, but I still have a question.

He is scheduled for his senator interviews this weekend. Should he tell them beforehand about the nomination? I only ask because I get nervous until things are "official" (i.e. in writing). His BGO says to go ahead and let the senators know, but I'm looking for as many points of view as we can get.

Thanks!

First off, congratulations to your son. Well done. I know you will read on here to apply and seek as many nominations as you can and it makes perfect sense. You want to have all options on the table when seeking an appointment. However, your son has an LOA and only needs a nomination to gain the appointment. He has said nomination and will now be appointed. If USNA is the only SA he is applying to or it is his first choice Academy, I agree with the BGO, tell your senators and let them decide whether or not to interview. If he is applying to other SAs, then he should by all means sit for the interviews and seek further nominations to those SAs. You only need one nomination to get an appointment and it looks like he is good to go.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, USNA is his first choice.

I thought congressmen interviews only just began. Do you mind if I ask which district already awarded a nomination? Congrats! That's amazing but I really thought that no one found out about nominations for another month or so.

CONGRATS!! We are in GA also, and what I remember from last year is that the Representatives office will share their list of nominees with the Senator's. So the senators should know by the interview date that your son rcvd a nomination. If by the time of his interview, you haven't rcvd the nomination in writing, he should simply let the senators know that he has verbally been told by the Representative that he has a nom. From USNA's perspective, they would prefer you still get as many noms as possible, because it gives them more leeway on where to assign his appointment.

That makes sense. His admissions counselor told him to go ahead and interview with the Senators, so he did this past weekend. Not sure exactly what it meant as his appointment came this morning!
