Nomination Questions

I had a Congressional nomination interview earlier this month and was told I would be notified the first week of December. I have not received a phone call, email, or letter saying that I have received a nomination, but when I logged into my USNA application portal, it says "These are your nominations to date" then it says Congress/Representative- Date Received 12/4/18. I was just wondering if this info would be right and if I have received the nomination?

should be right if it is there... congrats on nom. you will most likely get snail mail notification from MOC

that indicates the nomination you received, from whom, and when. Now just wait for an appointment

Does anyone know if you would get snail mail letter about the nom and then it would be posted? My daughter is anxiously awaiting some news.

There are 535 MOC's,and probably just as many ways of handling the nomination/notification process. Perhaps a bit of an overstatement, as I know that MOC staffs talk, and I suspect they have developed "best practices.." to make things like this more uniform and easier to administer, but the point is that each MOC is different, and can handle it their own way. Sometimes its a snail mail letter, sometimes its an email or even text, sometimes it could be a press release.

With respect to the OP, it looks like USNA received the nominations from the MOC and posted them before the MOC got the notices out to the Candidates themselves.

My DD recieved her MOC via snail mail but it was updated in the USNA portal before the letter arrived at out home.

I find it interesting how many States/districts are already submitting their nominations. DS's MOC hasn't even scheduled interviews yet (which is cutting it a bit close because his tenure is ending on Jan 3). From what I've read, our state's MOCs/senators coordinate so DS doesn't expect any news on noms until late January/early February (which is, I understand, typical for our state). Knowing that takes away a lot of anxiety in not hearing anything.

My DD received a MOC nom, our 2 senators did NOT interview. Only reviewed application. I am not sure about our congressman. We have not heard about interviews being scheduled.

We are wondering if our MOC may not interview this year. He was not re-elected (did not run) but is a 4 term congressman. He always interviewed in the past but almost never had a full slate (he submits a competitive slate). DS is flexible and has told his coach that he may have to miss an event on short notice this month. It is what it is.

One of the reasons that MOC noms may be being submitted earlier this year is that MOCs who are leaving office want to get everything done before they depart, which is early/mid January. And most of them (and their nom committees) probably aren't interested in spending the holidays working on this. So they're trying to get stuff in before mid-December. This may influence other MOCs who aren't leaving office, as sometimes one MOC will wait on others in the state (they compare notes) before submitting. Thus, if one submits early, that may trigger the others to finish early as well. However, the above is only an educated guess.

We got two letters from congressman and senator last year in November and December. We got one letter this year so far. Every state is different.

I didn't get an interview from one senator, I received a Nom after a November interview from congressman who is leaving January, and I still have not heard anything from the other senator. Best of luck, you should probably hear back soon.

My son received a nomination today from a senator to an Academy he didn’t even apply for.
I guess he put it as his fourth choice on his application and never followed through on finishing the application.
It’s a bummer too...his #1 choice Academy he is a hold candidate, I guess we’re waiting on the other two options now.

Not too late to get the application done (I think, depending on the academy). BTW, this happens every year.

Zacks4 , If you are from where I think you’re from you should be getting a notification shortly.

I found out about my first nomination from a letter. I found out about my second from my portal. I know some MOCs will have their office call candidates to notify them of their nomination. It wouldn't hurt to call their office and ask.

Portal first, letter via snail mail a couple of days later. Good Luck!
