Hello all,
This evening I visited the USAFA application homepage and I was surprised to find that the portal listed my nomination as "received". This was puzzling since all of my congressional boards had told me they would not be notifying until late December regarding their decisions. I did however apply for the presidential and vice presidential nominations but have not seen any emails or confirmations regarding those. The portal states that my "nominator" is "Reserved airman". I have also attached a photo. If anyone has any idea as to what this means please let me know.

As a side note, my USNA application has yet to "receive" any form of nomination.

The VP nom is evaluated, managed and selected by the SA and usually shows up in the portal late in the cycle, as the SA will use it where they need and want to.

The MOC noms are usually fairly easy to figure out.

I assume your Presidential was based on a parent’s service in the AF?

One sure way to find out from an official source is to call Admissions or a USAFA field POC.

Yes, both the VP and Presidential nominations were based off of my parent's military service. My initial concern is that the portal views my account as a prior enlisted? Not sure how that would happen but the nomination did catch me off guard.

I am working on contacting my USAFA counselor to find out what this nomination is.

Thanks for your help!

All candidates, regardless of eligibility for service-connected noms, may apply for the VP nom, and I suspect most do.

Here’s a link that details nom sources and numbers.

Ah - that helps, knowing you are prior enlisted. I’ve provided a link below that lays out the types of nom authorities and how many appointments can be charged against those. The Superintendent can provide noms to prior enlisted personnel.

No, sorry. I am not prior enlisted, I worded that wrong. I was just wondering if the portal thinks I am prior enlisted? Not sure why it would be that way, but the nomination just confused me.

If it said "Received", does that mean the applicant got nominated? Or it simply mean the nomination request is received?

my son shows recieved: presidential. so it would take a while to change if nominated or not?
thanks
All who are eligible for the Presidential nomination will eventually receive the affirmation of that status in their portal. It’s a matter of Admissions reviewing supporting documents and checking the block. The SA manages it all. It should not change once it says “received.” One hundred appointments for the class can be charged to the Presidential nomination authority. Unlimited numbers of Presidential noms are given out, as they are an eligibility-based nomination authority.

It’s one more element of the application process completed. The SA will build the class from the pool of fully qualified applicants. At least one nom is required for an appointment, whether the nom is service-connected, given by an elected official, or one that is managed by the SA from one of the nomination authority categories they manage.

I answered a Jan 2021 post from last cycle, because the same questions invariably arise.

Yes, they have an actual nomination noted for their application.
