Nomination Slate Question

Hi all,

I had a question about the nomination slate, particularly in case of a competitive slate. If you were in a non-competitive district and your congressional nomination source had nominated only 1 individual to a said service academy out of a potential 10 spaces (within a slate) that each MOC can nominate, wouldn't that mean you have virtually no competition within your slate, and would only need to be reviewed and determined by the service academy if you are deemed qualified for appointment or a prep slot?

Thanks!

I have another nomination slate question. If a Congressman gives a principal nomination and then ranks the other 9, as 1st alternate, 2nd alternate, and so on down the line. What would the scenario be for one of the alternates to receive the appointment. I realize that the principal nominee will be given the appointment as long as they are fully qualified by the academy and if not fully qualified it would go to the next highest ranked qualified nominee. Are there other scenarios where an alternate could get the appointment? I guess what I am asking is, say the principle nominee is fully qualified and receives the appointment, but then declines that appointment later on down the road because they decided to go somewhere else, would the next qualified alternate on the slate be offered that appointment, or is this one of those unfilled spots at that point and are filled from the National pool?
