Nomination Slate Question

Each Congressman and Senator is allowed 5 appointments to each service academy at one time, this usually is 1 appointment per year and 1 additional appointment every 4th year. They can nominate 10 candidates for that 1 appointment, this is what is being referred to as a "slate". On the year the Congressman/Senator/VP has that additional, 5th appointment, they can either give a second nomination to the same candidates they already selected, or choose to give it to 10 different candidates altogether, or any combination of the two that they choose. They repeat this process for each service academy(USAFA, USNA, USMA, and so on). You can also receive nominations from multiple sources, such as from your congressman, senator, VP, and so on. Although some Congressman and Senators communicate and will not give their nomination to someone that has already received it from someone else. So you can get multiple nominations to the same service academy and you may also get nominations to multiple service academies. Hope this helps.

I m super late to this conversation and trying to filter through the thread. maybe someone can explain what "slate" means.? My son has received 3 nominations from our congressman, 1 for each academy, but I have no idea what a "slate" is or anything about rank. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.
Go to the nominations forum, and read the tabbed information at the top. Very informative as to how slates and nominations work.

Additionally, go to each service academies website, where there is more information. And your nominating sources will also have a website that will explain their process.
