Once the MOC's make their decisions regarding nominations, and in the event I do receive a nomination to USNA/USMA/USAFA, with my Letters of Assurance how long will it be until I receive an appointment. Because my Letters of Assurance is contingent only upon receipt of nomination will an appointment come soon after the nomination slate is announced? Thank you for any help and insight you may have.

Very Respectfully,

Fairly soon. I have heard of somekids receiving the appointments within a week after getting word on their nomination when having an LOA and all other requirements fulfilled.

The only delay is usually when a MOC has a delay in getting the list to the academy. Sometimes the MOC may call you but the academy won't get the list for a couple of weeks.

Yep, J_A_M is correct.

My son had an LOA and was notified of his nomination on a Monday, and his USAFA appoinment came on Friday.

How do they usually notify you of a nomination?

Do they let you know if you were not nominated?

Many Congressmen call. Ours made a personal phone call. My daughter applied two years in a row and she missed the call both times.
She did not get a nomination from our Senators and did get letters from them. Although, the first year one of the US Senators was not re-elected and he must have been busy cleaning out his office since she never got a letter from him.

Your nomination status should show on the academy candidate page online.

Congressman B's office called with the good news.

Senator M sent a letter of congratulations.

Senator C sent a letter saying since noms were already secured from 2 other sources, no nom from his office was coming.

Hey Matt, relax, you will get a nomination :)

Bobcatmatt, I suggest you call your MOC's office to ask how nominees are notified.

When my son applied, he received a kind letter from one of our Senators saying 'We didn't choose you but good luck.' The other Senator never sent anything, and our Congresswoman, WHO DID NOMINATE HIM, never told him! Son and a h.s. classmate (who also got a nom from her), didn't receive a call, letter, email, or carrier pigeon. They found out via multiple phone calls.

Son got NAPS while his classmate got direct admit. When son applied for a nom again from NAPS, he received a second nom and that time he rec'd a letter. Each MOC seems to have his/her own M.O., and there's no harm in asking.

Our son received a phone call from the senator's academy rep a few days after the interview. The congressman sent a letter. It was all pretty fast...the interviews were in Novemenber and the appointment arrived the day after Thanksgiving. Good luck, Matt!
