I checked my AFA online application a few days ago and a nomination showed up from my MOC. My interview was in November. I never received a phone call or a letter. Is this unusual or should I expect a letter to come in the coming days?

I'm excited, but there's still a bunch of questions unanswered since I haven't been contacted, such as did I get a nomination to the NA too? am I a principle nom? are the noms ranked? etc.

Thanks.

It is not uncommon for a MOC not to notify you - hate to say it but it's true. While I personally think they all should contact you, not all do. It is also possible that the letter just has not made it to you yet. The staffer may have submitted the slate and has a letter ready for the MOCs signature but for whatever reason has not been able to catch up to the MOC to obtain the original signature yet ... that happens more often than you would imagine. Of course, it is also possible that they just are not gonna send a letter or you missed a call for which they didn't leave a message.

As to if you got a nom to USNA also, no idea. You'll have to either
a) wait
b) call USNA and ask
c) call MOC and ask
d) don't know if USNA web page shows it for you but you could look there

You may never find out how your MOC sent in the slate - many do not tell the candidates.

Call MOC and ask all your questions: nom to USNA, principal nom or competitive slate, etc. They should tell you.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm planning on calling the staffer in the next day or so. I'm just a little unsure what to say. After I say that I found out I had received a nomination, should I somehow thank him for it?

A thank-you note would be thoughtful... even though they didn't even take the time to tell you that you received the nomination :thumb:

Thanks, I was planning on that too, but I'm not sure if and how to do it over the phone. Saying "thank you for the nomination" doesn't seem right and I don't want to call the staffer and not say it if I should.

Roman - you can call the staffer and say something like, "I was on my USAFA status page & I notice that it reflects that I received a nomination from Congressman xyz, for which I am very appreciative, please relay my thanks to the Congressman for me. Can you tell me if the Congressman submitted the nomination slate with a principal nominee or as a competitive slate? Also, not only did I seek a nomination for USAFA but I also was hoping for a nomination to USNA. Their web page does not give the same information as USAFA. Can you advise if I also received a nomination to USNA?"

Many MOCs will not tell you if the slate is competitive or not so do not be surprised if you don't get that information. But, certainly it is worth asking. Similarly, many MOCs will not give a candidate two noms because they may have so many applicants. So don't be surprised if the response is that they gave you the AFA nom because that was listed as your first choice SA.

Good luck.

Roman, my son rec'd absolutely no notification either. When I read about the MOCs who arrange a personal 'presentation' or a personal phone call, I feel so jealous on son's behalf -- and now yours, too.

You've rec'd good advice here re: phoning your MOC w/ questions, and sending a written thank-you. This is one of those moments when you get to behave better than the authority figures who should know better. For that, you also get to smirk a little. Quietly, in private. But do it. You deserve to.
