So I've talked to my MOC and his assistants, they've told me I'm guaranteed the nomination and according to my ALO, have already told USAFA that they will be giving me the nomination but just have to turn in the proper paperwork.

According to my MOC's administration, I am the only USAFA candidate applying for the nomination in my district, which would mean I am the only candidate on my MOC's slate.

As the only nominee for my MOC's slate, would I be the principal nominee by default?

If this is true, as I am 3Q'd, would that guarantee an appointment barring any problems such as serious injury?

Technically yes, but there is obviously more to it. In other words, you've got a very good chance, but don't start spending the money until you get the job. But it sounds real good for you. Congrats and get use to "Hurry up and Wait". It could still be March before you find out. Mike....

Just out of curiosity, what else could there be to it?

Well...since two of you asked...

WORST case...

This MoC does NOT use the "principal/alternate" method. So...the only nominee is a "competitive" candidate.

Now...they're 3Q...that's good...BUT...their Weighted Composite Score, while "decent" is below the level that is being appointed.

As the MoC didn't make a "principal" nominee, the SA can notify the MoC that their nominee does NOT meet the entry level for a competitive appointment so the SA will not be appointing them and the MoC will not be charged that year for an appointment.

Now, at that point the MoC "could" decide to change their mind and designate "principal" nominee...I think. Not sure on that one, but it would make sense to me.

So...there's a "HORROR" scenario...it COULD happen...but...I'm like CC...I'm thinking this is good...

I emailed my ALO and he essentially said that all nominations go into a pool and USAFA picks from there, I'm not sure if he's correct on that as everything else I've read points elsewhere.

A question or 2 about the Weighted Composite Score. Is that the same thing as Whole Candidate Score I've seen mentioned elsewhere? Also, I'm guessing this is a score that the candidates themselves never see. My son has sent in updates to his resume (2nd letter this fall in a sport, received a scholar athlete award, became a committee chair in a club he's involved in, started tutoring 2 students)--do those kind of things up his score? How do we know for sure it gets updated in his file? Obviously if there is a minimum score even after the candidate has been ruled "Competitive" he wants to make sure his is as high as possible. He's received one nomination so far and and interviewed with both of our senators (decisions before Christmas) so that part is going well. Thanks for any input!

You're not going to get admissions to give you any hint or info on actual appointments. But what s/he said is correct. The problem is, you have to realize "What IS, IS". There can be 3 "POOLS". If your MOC nominator doesn't rank their slate, then all the individuals for that district are put into a pool. An individual to be slotted against that district representative, will be selected from that pool. The admissions individual you were talking to, is not going to; and does not have the time; to look up and tell if you are the only one in THAT POOL; THUS, somewhat assured of an appointment if all things are good. So what they said IS CORRECT. You WILL be put into a pool. Just that you don't have to worry about others splashing you while they're swimming. You're the only one in that pool.

The other pools are "State" for the senators. And "NATIONAL" for those who have nominations, but weren't selected from the nominee source to fill their slot; yet, the academy still needs more appointments to fill the class. Those come from the national pool. (If you take all the available slots from senators, representatives, president, vp, rotc, etc... and combined ALL those authorized slots for the next class together; it would only come out to about HALF of the appointments that are going to go out.) To fill the other 600-700 appointments, these come from the national pool. Those with nominations and haven't received an appointment yet, go into the national pool. best of luck to you. mike...

Isn't the waiting fun.:unhappy:

As a parent, I think I'm going more crazy than my son.

My mom's quite the trooper, she has about $200 saved up so that when we do get the BFE she can go all out on falcon gear.
