Nominations and Trying to Understand

There are SO MANY threads on this subject. I've searched but am striking out with an answer to my question. My son has completed applications with USNA and USMMA. He sent in his Nomination applications to both Senators and our Congressman listing USNA as 1st choice and USMMA as 2nd. He received an interview from all 3 but the 2 Senators specifically stated that they were interviewing him for USMMA ONLY. The Congressman did not specify so I'm guessing his panel consisted of all Service Academy reps? Regardless, my son received a Nomination from one of the Senators for USMMA, not the other (maybe they coordinate). He has yet to hear from the Congressman. I would assume he will hear something. Our Congressman won his district so is still in office. So my question is: Is there still a possibility that my son could get a USNA Nomination from our Congressman? This entire process is a bit confusing. And since I just recently joined this forum, I am really struggling with all the acronyms (besides the obvious ones) - so please try to educate me on those :)))

Yes it is possible that your DS could get a nomination from your congressman to USNA, USMMA or both. Nominations do not need to be submitted till the end of January, so there may be a wait.

Thanks for the info. What does "DS" stand for?

Go to The Acronym List in Community Information here on SAF.

DS- Dear Son, a common practice in Internet forums and chat sites

I also suggest the Nominations forum and the Stickies at the top.

Take a deep breath. As noted by above, there is hope for a USNA nom from MOC.

Capt MJ...I am laughing at myself right now as I went to the top and saw the tab that clearly states "The Acronym List"! I've been reading posts for weeks now totally confused! Just had that "Duhhhh" feeling. LOL! Hopefully others will read this thread and laugh, too! :)

It does help. By the time multiple service jargon mingles with unique service academy application process acronyms, DA and DD may seem a step over the cliff.
Keep fingers crossed for the offer of appointment, and from USNA after that, the coveted PTR packet - Permit to Report. Forms and more forms.

Once the Admissions roller coaster pulls into the station, you have a short breather, and then you’re off on a a 4 year barrage of new acronyms on the next roller coaster. But wait - there’s more - and the active duty years after that. DFAS. BAH. BAS. TAD. TDY. DUINS. PCS. HHG. OCONUS. JPME. Ad nauseam. Might as well learn military time now.
