Northwestern Preparatory C/O 2020

This thread has been quiet for several days. We (speaking as a parent co-miserator) are just over 2 weeks out from future cadets embarking on the next step leading to appointment for USAFA c/o 2025. Everyone would prefer you all were together at NWP, but it's going to work out for the best. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Aim High!
It is a little disheartening to see my friends taking and dropping their children off at college, knowing that ours don't get to do that this year. However, we've opted to redo DD's room to make it more conducive to online learning...changing from a schoolgirl's room to more dorm-like. New desk, rearranging to allow for more PT area, etc. It's giving her a little something to make it seem like somewhat of a new transition. I know it's not what we all wanted and looked forward to, but I now they'll all figure it out and do great!

What a cool idea. Although it could be a little frightening to see what we find after clearing the room of an 18 yr old boy. o_O Nevertheless. I think all of the NWPrepsters are ready to get things rolling.

Twins4su...believe me, scary things aren't limited to 18 yrs old boys!! 🤣🤣 I honestly didn't realize her closet was so big! I haven't seen the back of it in years!!

Good luck everyone! It still feels like yesterday that I was leaving my home with just a suitcase, box of linens, and my trunk. Fast forward nine months and I left a hotel room for USAFA I-Day with just a backpack and the clothes I was wearing. Looking back, attending NWP was one of the best decisions I ever made. Just like we adapted to a new BCT in reflection of the changes in our nation, so will you during this critical period of preparation. Take it seriously, work hard, and don't forget to lose sight of the goal ahead: an appointment. I hope to see you all at I-day next year!

Lord, thank you for the opportunity you have provided these Falcon Foundation Scholars. Please keep a watchful eye on these future cadets as they embark on a challenging curriculum. When their thoughts stray off course, gently nudge them back on track. When they feel discouraged, instill a "can do" attitude in their hearts. When they feel overwhelmed, remind them why they are here. Help them to come together as a group and learn to support each other and form permanent bonds of friendship and camaraderie. Open their eyes, hearts and minds to embrace the learning and preparation process they will be part of. When they see obstacles, help them to figure out how to clear them. Most importantly keep them focused on the many blessings in their lives and that you have a forged a path for them to serve and lead. Settle their hearts so they can see and know you are supporting them. Place a hedge of protection around their bodies, minds, hearts and spirits and help them through this critical early stage of the forging process and emerge prepared to accept their future appointment to USAFA Class of 2025. Amen.

It sounds like the NWPrepsters are starting to get into their groove...after the historic day off yesterday. First labor day off in the history of Northwestern Prep.:wow: How is your DS/DD doing with the whole online thing so far?

Perspective from a NWPrepster, math is by far the most difficult class, and vocab is a love hate thing. We hate studying it, but we love when we nail a -0

Wow, I am 1986 USNA grad and until this forum had never heard (or met) a NWP graduate. I looked at their website and it seems very interesting a great option. Does anyone have stats on what their acceptance rate is? Do people typically try to apply to the Academies and then utilize NWP if they don't get in the first time? How does it compare with NAPS? I knew lots of my classmates that were NAPSTERs and they all did quite well at USNA. My DS is a junior and contemplating USNA strongly but he has a way to go with grades, leadership etc so I am keeping options open and any gouge would be appreciated.

Most of the students who attend NWP are recipients of a Falcon Foundation scholarship. These students are considered qualified, but not competitive for USAFA. Here's a look at FF stats https://www.falconfoundation.org/Performance
I believe USNA has a similar program for students through their Foundation https://www.usna.com/asp-partner-schools

DD was a FF Scholar and did quite well. Graduated USAFA in 2017 and is a FAIP.

DS is getting into a routine, his younger brother, a junior in HS, has a hybrid schedule, so the boys ran together today. DS is liking getting to know his classmates and is staying on top of studying and being motivated. The experience would be so much richer in Crestline, CA. Alas, in life, we have to play the hand we're dealt.

To all the NWP Falcons, I mean future cadets, be "all in" for this, there are changes taking place that you may not fully realize until days after you exit the bus on June 24, 2021 as Doolies. You'll be ready, you've got this!

As a parent of a FS...the time zones do make it difficult for the students to connect and get to know one another. But, everyone is doing their best to settle in...and groups are working together from time to time. They will be ready for the rigors of the Academy next year!
