Northwestern Preparatory C/O 2020

Count us in...if we find a place that serves bacon of course! We are looking forward to conversations that don't start with the long explanation of what DS is doing / going. I concur with all that Hopeful Mid had to say about the upcoming trip to the mountain. Get the nom paperwork done and work out. See you all in September.

My DD is planning on going on Tues as well. But we aren't flying out until Thurs/Fri, so we're in for dinner. We're coming all the way from "very low altitude" Florida! Looking forward to meeting everyone and to a great Fall semester!

Just received a Falcon Scholarship offer on 6/11/20 and will be attending NWP!

For the group, if anyone is heading to NWP unaccompanied and needs an airport ride or a place to crash on Wed. 9/2, please reach out via PM. We'll be staying in Crestline area starting 9/1 and would be glad to help out.

Thank you for hospitality! Also, welcome MFalcon, must've been gut wrenching to have to wait this long! I see you have a new account, if you are able to make a few more posts on the forums, you can PM me so I can add you to the Instagram group chat, if you're interested.

Thank you! After this message I have 3 more before I can PM you

This thread has been quiet for a few weeks. Last post was from @Hopeful Mid 2024 about starting an Instagram group for the candidates. I'm kind of old-school when it comes to social media, but think it's a great idea and hope the group takes advantage of the opportunity to get to know each other, which reminds me, I need to let DS know.

Over the past few months, I've come to think of SAF as kind of a family. We've persevered through the application, competed for nominations and "enjoyed" the glorious wait of the selection process together. We've learned so much along this journey and hopefully in the ensuing years, we'll be able to pass along our experiences to future candidates and the parents who support them. I hope all of us on the list are happy we've made it to this point.

When people ask if DS has heard from USAFA, the response is similar to "...yes, and well, he's sort of on the 5 year plan..." and then explain the Falcon Scholarship. Have to admit I was a little confident putting that 2024 in my SAF username, it will serve as a reminder that God has 3 answers to prayer, "Yes", "No" or "Wait".

For the candidates here, or more positively stated, "future cadets", you're going to experience some great things together these next 5 years. You're all exceptional young people, that's why you're here. It's not going to be easy, you'll learn to work together, to help each other and succeed as a team. For the parents here, we'll see our kids transform into the future leaders the USAF needs them to become.

We're all heading to "the mountain" in a few months and will be together on Thursday, Sep. 3rd. DW is a CA native, her mom and sister live in Southern Ca. We're heading out for a mini-vacation. The future cadets will have their Instagram group, so how about a get-together for the NWP Falcon parents from SAF? Based on the states in the list, 6 or 7 of us are flying in. Guessing many will be there on Wednesday. However, everyone will be there between 1500 and 1700 on Thursday, with last minute hugs when it's time for the parents to leave. This makes a convenient time to meet and get to know each other. How does a group dinner after saying goodbye sound?

Looking for your feedback on this. Feel free to PM me if you're not sure about replying in a public thread. I tagged everyone on this list, future USAFA cadets and future USAFA parents all listed below. If you know other Falcons attending NWP, pass this along to them.

Hope to hear from you! ~Dad_2024

Hello! Just circling back on the Forum. I think DD is volunteering on Wed so I am not sure if we will be staying longer or driving back to CO on Thursday. Would love to meet some of you NWP future Falcon parents! Keep us in the loop in case we are still there to join for Thurs dinner. Thanks. Loved your post!

I took a few minutes to search restaurants in Crestline. There are plenty of places in downtown that would be perfect for you parents to eat at after you dump us off at NWP 😆, including some good BBQ and classic American Diners. Also, I would just like to say, that I have already started getting the packing list together for this fall, and for all the required bedding, Target had everything that was needed, at a good price. Just thought I'd pass that info on.

So just a bit of an update to this thread, I received a PM from a user to be added to the group chat (PM me with Instagram username to have you/DS/DD added), but they didn't add their name to the list. I'm not going to add it, just out of privacy. An update on the parents restaurant night. This place has good reviews, and offers classic comfort food (like a mom and pop Denny's). It is called The Bear House Family Restaurant if you all would want to look that up. I have not spoken to my parents about that, I was just doing some independent research, and that is what I would personally recommend. But again, it's not my dinner lol. There isn't much else in Crestline to be honest...

To all parents of Falcons heading to NWP, conversations have been ongoing regarding a potential Wednesday and Thursday night dinner. Some of the kids are volunteering Wed. so those parents will presumably be in town that night. We are considering two spots for these get-togethers on subsequent nights so pm Dad_2024 (hope you are ok with this Dad_2024 :)) or me if you would like to meet up with the group. Here's hoping they are able to head to the mountain as planned.

For those flying (potentially) into ONT, American Airlines has waived their change fee on economy bookings for this summer. Flights are not bad currently so we are locking in with hopes of not changing. Here is the verbiage from their site...

We’re extending our offer to waive change fees on existing and new tickets for summer travel through September 30, 2020. This offer includes Basic Economy and AAdvantage® award tickets.

Keep in mind:
  • You may owe any difference in ticket price when you rebook your trip.
  • You’re allowed to change your origin and destination cities as part of this offer.
  • If you rebook, travel must be completed by December 31, 2021.
Plus, if you have a ticket that is expiring between March 1 and September 30, 2020, the value of your unused ticket can be used for travel through December 31, 2021.

Great info @Twins4us!

We are loyal Southwest flyers in our house, SWA has many flights in and out of ONT and at the risk of sounding like an advertisement for them, they are the most flexible with changes and 2 bags (even a footlocker) fly free.

Glad to hear that things are starting to come together, booking flights and such. Personally, I have a blue footlocker in my room that grows heavier by the day. Hard to believe that we are only 2 months away from opening day. It seems like only yesterday that I received my FS offer from an email I received at 1am, and began researching the prep schools. Lets keep our fingers crossed that everything starts as planned.

We've already booked our flights on SW as well...couldn't pass up the 2 free check-on's per person! Looking forward to meeting everyone and continuing to pray that they can start on time!
