Looks like I'm the first self prep on here haha. I'll dm in a bit about the group chat.

Welcome! Great to have you on the list. I'll be on the look out for your message.

Welcome to the fun so7. On a side note, if you are buying things for the "mountain" on Amazon, check out using their Smile program. It donates a small amount of your purchase to a charity. Northwestern Prep is on of those charities that you can designate. It may not be much, but every bit helps.

Out of towners - where are you lodging? I looked last month then got busy. Need to figure this out :). Thanks!

I need to talk to my parents about this as well, thanks for the reminder. Most likely San Bernardino (SB). The area around Crestline has a few hotels, all of which are rustic and outdoors themed. SB has a lot of motels, typical Motel 6, Rodeway Inn, and Days Inn type places, for a pretty reasonable price. SB is also only about 10 miles from Crestline, so that's a plus. Make sure whatever you decide to book has a refund available if needed, as California government is going a bit Covid crazy right now. About a month and a half away from opening day, it's coming up fast 🤯

We booked a VRBO in Crestline. DWs family is in SoCal, but we decided to make a mini vacation out of the trip. We check in on Tues eve, DS is volunteering on Wed. Figuring a group SAF Falcon/and NW prepsters meetup on Wed. eve. Say goodbye to the future cadets Thurs afternoon and another meetup on Thurs eve.

Praying for our Falcons and free agents, as they morph into future cadets, that God will keep them healthy and safe and open their hearts and minds to help them prepare for their time together on the mountain. Also that NWP runs like a regular cycle to ensure they receive all the preparation they need to succeed as Doolies next year.

Thanks Dad 2024! I was looking at AirBs. Cancellation policy is strict, but AirB has been changing some of these to accomodate for COVID. Good insight into schedule :).

I love your prayers!

Thanks Hopeful Mid 2024! Great and very helpful thoughts :).

I recently was reading the Northwestern Prep newsletter, and was met with some interesting news. Once we get there in September (assuming everything goes to plan🙏) we will not be receiving any leave time during the semester. Looks like a they are trying to make a “bubble” so once we know everyone is healthy we keep the bubble closed so it stays that way. I’m interested to see what they do with standardized testing, because when I spoke with former NWP students they said they did tests at an off site high school.

@Hopeful Mid 2024, you can confirm with contacts from last year's NWP alumni, the semester normally runs without a break (even over Thanksgiving). It helps keep you future cadets focused on the mission. You'll be surprised how fast those 14 weeks will fly by.

Information only, please don't shoot the messenger, in the news yesterday, CA gov basically declared K-12 schools to be online for the fall. I have not researched if there's an impact to schools like NWP, I'm sure when NWP has relevant info they'll share it.

For the parents out there, does it seem like only the future cadets are receiving email info / newsletter updates from NWP? For example, there was a packing list change, the NWP newsletter site's packing list tab is cleared with the exception of a message to check email from 6/29/2020. I expect NWP is communicating only with future cadets to reinforce the concept of personal responsibility and accountability.

Still praying for our future cadets and their Falcon experience will provide the level of preparation needed to be successful. There's a reason USAFA admissions selected all future cadets in this group for such an experience.

Quick idea for motivational prep, we are about T-46 days depending on how you count them. DS is with friends this weekend, when he returns home tomorrow evening, this sign will be posted on the door of his room:

Living in CA myself, most if not all public schools will be online this fall, it is up to the districts to do the voting, and most will go off of Sacramento's guidance (for better or worse depending on how you view things). However, I have many friends that are going to schools in the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. They will all be moving into their university dorms in the fall, with the possibility of online classes. NWP is not run by the UC or CSU system, as it is a private school. Nothing is set in stone yet, so I'm right there praying with you that we get to go in September. I'm not trying to downplay what you saw on the news, that is just my perspective as a CA resident.

Also just a question for those who are doing volunteer day. That is on the 2nd, are you just dropping off and not coming back, or are parents returning to campus on the 3rd (official Opening Day) for a final farewell?

Good question, I don't know if volunteer day is setup to accommodate an option for future cadets to stay at NWP on Wednesday night. Hence the idea to hold a SAF group get together for Falcon and self-prep future cadets and families that night, especially for people arriving on Wednesday.

Personally, even if staying Wed night at NWP is an option for the future cadetd, I'd prefer to have the additional family time before saying goodbye to DS till mid-December.
