Hi all,

I was recently accepted to my top 2 schools, Norwich and Citadel. Thank you to everyone here who helped me with answering questions and the admissions process!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these two schools and what their major differences are or what their experiences are at one of them.

Also, other than physical fitness, what should I do to start preparing?

Thank you!

Have you visited both schools? This is very important to do.

Train for the APFT. At Norwich you take it within days of arrival. If you fail you are put in remedial PT, you do not want to be in remedial PT.
being able to handle the physical aspects will give you a head start on adjusting to the lifestyle.
Norwich is currently in the process of "professionalizing" the Corps of Cadets. The aim is to have a structure that more closely resembles the Army.
A by-product is that many Military school "traditions" are being lost. Depending on your point of view this is either good or bad.
Still plenty of of what my son calls "stupid stuff" but poor leadership is being cracked down on.
The emphasis is training with a purpose. Although as a recruit it can be hard to see the purpose sometimes.
Even the appearance of hazing is dealt with swiftly and cadre have lost there jobs for doing stuff the were subjected to just a couple years ago.

Cadet257 - best advice is to request a weekend visit during the college year. As an accepted applicant, the Admissions Office will try to schedule your visit if possible when cadets are on campus. You will stay with a 4th Class Cadet in the barracks, follow the Cadet to formations, mess, and generally get to discuss what it is like the first year. You will also meet faculty of the academic department for the major you think you want to take up at the college. If you cannot make it to Charleston before you need to decide on your choice of school, call the Admissions Office and ask to have a telephone conversation with a Cadet. They will try to accomodate your request. Also, the web site has a lot of information on matriculation day, the 4th Class System, physical requirements, etc.

Norwich was very accommodating 3 years ago when DS visited. We went through his admissions counselor and she arranged meetings with AROTC, the Commandant of Cadets, his academic department of choice, and I think there was 1 more. He was looking at a sport, so his overnight was with a team member.

I have heard of Norwich paying for visits of prospective students in need.
if that is the case for you let them know and maybe something could be worked out.
As Soccmomer said, very accommodating.

Norwich offered to fly my son there to visit when he had been accepted.

Why is that? Does ROTC resembles the Army??

Not ROTC. No mention of ROTC in my post.
My post referred to The Corps of Cadets.

Good Morning. #3 got the big packet and a phone call from Norwich yesterday. Now he will have to think about what he wants to do while he waits for any other acceptances to roll in...

Norwich has an excellent Cyber warfare/security program has had it for awhile, got out ahead of many others.

I like to brag on it because the family that Mentored our family and my husbands career was the Vice- Commandant and got the congressional funding to start the cyber think tank up there way back after 9/11. So I am extra proud for him and his wife.

Plus my Brother-in-law ( Currently a bird Col) was a full ride ROTC Grad.

So beautiful there also, course I like cold better than heat.
