Important question about the packing list for Norwich. Are boxer briefs an acceptable form of underwear for males? The list specifies 10 pair white briefs or boxers, but DS really likes the combo. I would hate to send him off to school with problem underwear!

I asked my son who is a junior and will be Cadre this year and he says as long as they are white there is no problem

Boxer briefs work.
I suggest bringing more than 10.
I also suggest bringing 3-5 pairs of compression shorts. They can be stored in a footlocker.

Keep in mind they will only use it for one semester.
My son used a Samsonite from Staples that cost around $30
After recognition everyone switches to backpacks.
Do not get the one the bookstore sells with the Corp of Cadets logo.
Since Rooks are not officially in the Corp until recognition the logo my draw "unwanted attention".

Thank you! It's great to know it will have limited use. Now I can plan accordingly. Would you mind answering another question? On the packing list, it looks like Rooks will only need one pair of white socks for arrival, other than that, black are required. Is that new? Every video shows white socks with pt uniforms.

I just looked and it does say black athletic socks.
They must be transitioning to the new Army PT uniform.
I wonder if my son knows to go back to school with black socks?
You can also have your child contact their admissions adviser.
They are typically Norwich grads with up to date information.
My son's even gave advice (we asked) on which cell carrier has the best coverage.

Ya, it changed to black socks the first weekend in April. No logo on the socks except on the toe and heel.

My son scored a Samsonite briefcase with a lifetime warranty for $45. He will end up using it in addition to his backpack.

DS also contacted his professor on the best laptop specs to last all 4 years since his major is processor heavy.

Double check an iPad isn't needed! 4 or 5 majors require one now.

We are packing 2 boxes - one I send before Rook Week (he's flying solo), and one for after.

We also imported the whole packing list into Amazon wish lists and as we buy stuff or people ask, we get to mark things off. Very handy and mobile.

Be sure to buy extras of underwear, boot socks, socks shirts, etc to have inspection ready. Will save time. DS also bought a 2nd pair of low quarters so he can have one pair parade ready at all times.

Hi all - have a son entering cadet program in the fall. Can someone weigh in on whether or not rooks should pack in a footlocker or are duffle bags OK.

They will be issued a footlocker.
A duffel bag would be easier to stash once they arrive.
after first year he may want a second footlocker.

Following the packing list, it will save your Rook some headaches. Pack a duffel to be used for holidays as well as move-in, use boxes your Rook can tear down for everything else. The 2nd footlocker for after recognition or to start 2nd year is a great idea!

I have 3 boxes to mail - 1) stuff for Rook week, 2) stuff for after Rook week, and 3) stuff For after recognition.

Re: mobile phone carriers. Sprint is letting us outnnof our contract and DS is signing up with Verizon. 1 bar of 3g at the civilian dorms was the best we could get with Sprint!

My son dropped Sprint for ATT.
Call sprint with the address and have some document (acceptance letter works) that proves they will be there and no problem for contract release.

Any feedback with TMobile? I am looking to change to ATT or Verizon, which is better for campus?

My kid was at NU last week. We have TMobile and he didn't experience any issues calling or receiving texts, etc. I believe TMobile has a tower near the university.
