Norwich Q&A

My son reports for football on 8/10 and then Rook Arrival is 8/23. Haven't decided yet how we'll handle that, but Mom and I will only be present for one of those days. I'm leaning toward arranging other transportation for him for football camp.

Rook arrival is something to see.
Athlete Rooks participate fully in Rook week.
Later on they may skip/miss certain Corp activities due to training and games.
My son had to report a few days (Friday before Rook arrival Sunday) early for the ROTC scholarship dinner.
We stayed in the area for the march off.
So Rook Arrival is more than just dropping off the youngster? Do parents participate in or observe things all day? This could help with the decision to accompany him for football check-in vs. Rook Arrival.

There are a variety of activities that weekend.
I am sure a past schedule is available online.

Rook Arrival Day 2020
I contacted Norwich. Word from the VP of Student Affairs is that there will be no ceremonies this year due to Covid-19. NU is still considering more than one RA day to further limit contact. Consider Rook Arrival day to be a "drop-off" at the dorm. Parents will pull up to the dorm, stay in their cars, and say goodbye. He advised that parents of Norwich fall athletes say their goodbyes when dropping sons and daughters off on the reporting day for their respective sports.
While unfortunate, this seems like a very good move to protect the surrounding community from unnecessary contact with an influx of people traveling from areas that have been hit harder by the virus than Vermont.

Better to not have a Rook Arrival day versus no graduation (like us).

Unfortunately these kids are experiencing both.. No High School Graduation, and no Rook Arrival Day. Both are important events in our kids lives that they won't be able to get back.

The same goes for your graduation from Norwich. Sad and unfortunate situation for everyone involved.

My son's larger disappointment was not being able to commission along side his AROTC class.
He was done with school (mentally) awhile ago. He had a great overall GPA, 3.9 the last semester, so he still did the work, was just done with it.
