notification from ROTC

S received phone call from recruiter this morning to "unofficially" notify him of being selected for a MO scholarship. Recruiter said S wouldn't know which school choice on his list it is for until March.
His page changed from "At district board" and "awaiting science teacher rec" (or something like that) to "No decision has been made on your application" and then lists all his info and school choices.
My sincere thanks to all who post valuable info. on this site. You all make up a fantastic community that provides great service.
Best of luck to all applicants!

Congrats to your son cvilltn! The NROTC page says it will be down this weekend, which I assume is to update statuses. I'm anxiously awaiting hearing about my M.O. NROTC app.

If my status isn't changed by Monday or Tuesday though, I'll probably email the XO of my district who handled my app to see if he knows anything.

I was following the thread for the last couple weeks, just didnt post.

I also applied for the nrotc mo scholarship but just found out I didnt get it today. Gonna reapply for the second board. Is it true they only give out 20% at the first board?

For what it's worth, son was told 20 scholarships were given out, from about 120 plus packages that were submitted. We are on the east coast. Also, son had his package/interview complete in late September. Hope that helps.

I may have said this earlier in this thread, but the XO for my district, a captain, told me that 16 scholarships were being given out for something like 9 states in my region (I'm on the west coast). He told me that something like 44 more scholarships for the west coast would be awarded on the second board.

My XO up in Raleigh, NC, said that he submitted 14 packets of which only two were selected. Last year my brother won a MO scholarship on the first board and was told that 27 packets were submitted for the first selection and 12 were selected. A much bigger percentage made it last year. I guess it's a sign of the downsizing of our military. What a difference a year makes.

Pilot2b, any word yet? Good-luck and hope it's great news before Christmas. I have a long wait until the next board...:frown:

Are the Nursing Scholarships included in those who will be notified soon? Anxiously waiting. Good luck to everyone else who are also waiting.

austinl, I know what you mean. I still haven't heard, but the NROTC website goes down tonight and doesn't come back up until late Sunday. Hopefully I'll know by then. There is one strange thing that happened when I tried to log in to see my status just a few minutes ago, but I'll start another thread for that.

Just a quick note to Flyer27:

I just wanted to make sure you know that you do not need to "reapply" for the 2nd board. Your file will automatically transfer over.

Yep. That makes it a lot easier! Now I just have to go destroy the pft to improve my chances.

Does the fact that I am currently a college freshman affect my application at all?

The NROTC page is back up now and I just checked my status. Nothing has changed. Does that mean I didn't get a Marine Option scholarship on the 1st board?

Note: I am emailing my XO to doublecheck.

Navy ROTC Acceptance - UC Berkeley #1 option - Tier 2 Major

My son recently got a call that he has been awarded a 4 year NROTC - Navy option scholarship to his first choice UC Berkeley unit for a Tier 2 Major (Math and sciences). We need to send the acceptance letter by Dec 30th..so, got to get busy.

Thanks to all for sharing your experiences on this forum which continue to guide us.

Hey Pilot2be,
Definitely contact your XO to find out. Hope you did get it but if not, don't lose hope yet. There's still the second board.

Marine ROTC scholarship

My son was notified Friday afternoon that he received a Marine ROTC 4 yr scholarship to RPI (New York) which was his first choice. I would definitely call at the end of next week if you dont't hear anything. Good Luck!

Pilot2b,
As I mentioned in an earlier post, last Wed. my son's page changed. Then it changed again on Sunday evening (after the site came back up) to read "Congrats, you've been awarded..." and "Your scholarship has been placed at XYZ".
My guess is that you were not picked up on the first board, but don't give up.
The main reason for this post is to tell you of my neighbor. Last year he was selected for a scholarship on the LAST board. It was to a school that was not even listed in his top 5 because those were all filled by that point. He was allowed to switch to another school that was also not in his top 5. By the end, someone dropped out of his first choice school and he was offered, and accepted, the MO scholarship to his first choice school.
Bottom line: Keep pressing ahead and don't give up. It will work out somehow.

Marine ROTC scholarship

Was just notified by my recruiter and his boss an hr or so ago! I was so excited i cried lol. My status online hasn't changed so i wasnt expecting to hear anything til later in the week. Goodluck to everyone still waiting!

Just found out while on break a few days ago that I did not receive a Marine Option scholarship on the early board.

Only 2 applicants from my state were selected. The XO for my district says my chances are good for the late board though, so I'm really hoping...

Keep your thoughts positive and while you do continue to finish up your details for Plan B if you don't get it.

Good luck
