Notification of Appointment

DS received a call from Congressman for USNA appointment offer on 12/28. His portal was updated with the offer in the first week of Jan. However, he never received a BFE. He received no call about WP appointment, but his USMA portal was updated with offer in January and a very nice BFE followed a few days later. Should he expect a formal snailmail from USNA? Thanks
Yes he should, my son received a nice certificate in a blue portfolio signed by the superintendent

Update: nothing in the mail yet! Hoping that by posting something here, it becomes an ironic thought later today that I “just posted something this morning !! ”. Seriously, though, the waiting is a lesson in patience. I cannot recall another time that has been so exciting in a very long time.

Anyone else have a timeline they care to share? DS accepted on Thursday, 1/4. Seems like a month ago, but in reality we are only at the two week mark today [emoji849].

UPDATE IT WORKED!! I am lol at this! Mailman brought it to the door. Taking it to DS’s school tonight per his request (wrestling meet). VERY excited [emoji51]! Two weeks to the day!

DD saw all the magic updates in her portal. It became real when the BFE arrived in the mail.
New to forum as of tonight...son received LOA in Oct, and phone call about nomination exactly one week ago (final item required). He can see that the nomination status was updated on his portal. From what I'm reading for your daughter's magic updates, it didn't take long for the BFE to arrive? We have been curious about the timeframe. If the candidates accept offers of appointment right away, which my son plans to do, I assume it's not too early to start making reservations for I-day (for myself and husband)? Thank you for any additional info
I have booked flights, reserved rooms and airport pick up- will book for PPW as soon as flights are released. :)

And if there’s a favorite chain eatery or other special place for a Last Meal, make reservations. It’ll be you and 1100 plebes’ worth of parents, extended family, and assorted entourage members jamming into the town.

I need to update this list, but most of it’s good:
Annapolis Restaurants/Where To Eat 2016/ I-Day CVW Visit Graduation PPW

Have fun.

Love the "Last Meal" reference. We had one before I-Day report. Kid was stressed but a bunch of Fathers at the hotel were stressed also. We had a good time in the parking lot.

Remember that it's an OFFER of appointment. They still have to make it through processing and take that oath on June 28th.
They may want to stay off motorcycles and skateboards, until then. :)
What do you mean when you say make it through processing?

I believe it's when you sign in and get your ID and clothes and do all the necessary first day settling in things - a bit more about I-day in this link (I'm sure there's a more recent link out there somewhere but this will give you an idea) //www.usna.edu/PlebeSummer/_files/documents/2013/REPORTING%20I-DAY%20Info.pdf and in that document is says, "After commencing in-processing at Alumni Hall, midshipmen candidates will not see their family and friends again until after the Oath of Office Ceremony..."

I was just wondering about “you still have to make it through processing and take the oath” can something go wrong on I-Day? Assuming I show up in perfect health and in great shape.

You should be fine on I Day. There are usually a few rare cases each year of someone being turned away. Admissions is usually aware of it and will have them report and the doctors will evaluate. It is usually medical related. For instance one year a young man showed up in a wrist and thumb cast. He saw the doctors and they had new X-rays taken and they made a determination that he would not be able to participate enough during Plebe Summer. Admissions grabbed his parents and him and they walked him thru an LOA and what to do to return home. Admissions knew he had this injury right before I Day and was aware of it all. Other then that I have only seen someone turned away for not passing their breathalyzer and someone from NAPS I believe got married during their leave.

DS received a congressional nomination mid December but found out through his portal. The congressional staffer was none too happy as he said they normally give the office a few days to notify the candidate. Then, he received a call from his congressman last week with an offer of appointment. He was told that the portal update and letter (BFE) should arrive sometime this week. We are all very excited! My DS still has an interview with a senatorial MOC in 6 days. We are not sure whether he should go or notify them of pending offer if no formal letter or portal update before then?
Where are you from? We are Irmo. Class of 17 and 20. Congrats!
