I am 3Q and nominated. I got a voicemail today from my congressman in which he informed me that I received an appointment from West Point! While I am extremely excited, I have a few questions. Firstly, I figured I would hear from the academy itself about an appointment rather than my congressman: do congressmen/women hear about their nominees' appointments before the nominees? And has anyone else found out about their appointment this way? My congressman did say that I will be contacted by West Point very soon, but I would just like to be sure that this is an official form of acceptance/appointment before I begin to celebrate. Thank you!

According to 10 U.S. Code 7442, “When a nominee of a Senator, Representative, or Delegate is selected for appointment as a cadet, the Senator, Representative, or Delegate shall be notified at least 48 hours before the official notification or announcement of the appointment is made.”

The MOC that nominates you is notified of your appointment. They can choose to tell you, or wait for you to find out through other means. It really depends on what the MOC wants to do, but it’s not an uncommon way to find out you have received an appointment.

The SAs give the elected officials a small head start. Some notify, some don’t. Then the SA proceeds with updating portals sending correspondence, etc.

It'll pop up in your portal within a few days. They let the congressperson tell you first should they so choose.

Thank you, very helpful!

Congrats! It’s real! BFE could be any day or weeks. Checking the mail is a fun new game!! DD actually received hers 2 days after the call and before it hit the portal! Just enjoy the ride!

I believe they send out the BFE in waves like the admit kit (little waves now until the big waves start in hopefully February)

DS1 only got a call from the MOC for the NOM. No call for the appointment. DS2 got the call for the appointment. Same MOC three years apart. Call came before anything showed up in the portal. Congrats!

Same here. DS received a voice message from our congresswoman herself today, congratulating him for “acceptance into West Point”. DS was confused as his portal still remains the same, not showing appointment.

DS’s appointment shows up in his portal

For my DS it took 4-5 business days to show up on the portal ( he got it on 30th Dec, need to keep in mind Holiday time)
