Child received HSSP scholarship. But also waiting on SA. Has a first choice school for ROTC. Should they notify that that college now, wait to see if they get accepted/rejected from SA, wait to see if they get accepted/rejected from first choice college? Thx

My advice would be for your child to notify the school of the scholarship. At some schools, the prospect of a fully paid scholarship student may have some sway with admissions. Your child may not hear about SA admission for several months, after other college admission decisions have been made.

I agree with ProudDad17. There is a good chance that the school will be notified by the ROTC unit on campus, but you should also speak to unit too to confirm. This point is especially true with the school being your child's first choice as the unit will be motivated to assist. Good luck with the scholarship and the SA admissions too!

A side note**** Be careful when notifying your first choice ROTC school this early. Some school's have EA and ED, if they have ED, and they accept your child and your child also accepts it is usually binding. Not sure how ED effects SA's, but I have seen articles that say you cannot "accept" admission to one school (ED) and still be eligible for another school that is accredited (an SA). EA is not binding and they can accept and wait for the SA decision.

I hope I have it correct and not bass ackwards! One of them (ED or EA) requires acceptance and consequential removal from other applications.

Thanks. Didn’t apply ED anywhere b/c of SA. I was thinking an email to his first choice school would say that it was his first choice but it’s complicated with SA still outstanding.
