Now I have heard it all......

My DS's counselor refused to assist in any way with the application process. She would not write a letter of recommendation and actively worked to prevent others in the high school administration from helping. Fortunately, we had a new principal who personally assisted my DS and wrote required letters of recommendation for all five academies plus ROTC. She tried, but could not get the counselor to do anything and could not even discipline the counselor for not doing her job. We live in a very anti-military town, including the school board. But you're right, they had no problem adding DS's scholarship money to the school total and bragging about it!

SOOO SAD

Being apart of Public Education for 40 years, it breaks my heart to hear of school districts treating DD's and DS's in this manner....

Living in Colorado Springs, CO, we have a great advantage of being apart of the Air Force Academy, Peterson AFB, Schriver AFB, and Fort Carson (Army). My school district has a high percentage of military children K-12. I could not imagine being ignored and out right insulted by my school district....THERE IS NO EXCUSE!!! (no matter what your personal views are)

Those of you who encounter such 'stupidity'.....I would be tempted to reply..."and WHY do you have the FREEDOM to say/write/do this to my child?" :unhappy: Where will we be if the next generation of responsible citizens won't step up and sacrifice their lives and service to our Nation????

My DD 'heard' and accepted the 'Call'. She will graduate from USMMA and will be commisioned into the Active duty Navy...I am so proud and appreciate the way my school district supported her way to this point. (I will be writing another appreciation letter to the JROTC, Counselor's and Staff.....)

So sorry for all the negatives that our DS's and DD's have had to endure. This is what happens when certain rules are enforced without looking into the reasons why. I had to fight very hard to have my DS's appointment acknowledged at awards night and graduation. It is a fight I would fight again. At KP he has been on his own and I only lend support as needed.

coach is a jerk

Suzi- I'm so sorry your son was treated with such disrespect. I'm sure that was a very hurtful and ridiculous thing for him to go through (and for you, too). Sometimes people are just jerks- and it sounds like this coach is "one of those people". I'd be out of my mind "miffed" also. Hang in there...
Your DS is heading off to "bigger and better"!

...........an update.....again unbelieveable!!!

During Senior Awards DS was presented a big check by the NROTC instructor from our school (he had administed the physical fitness test for DS), he read the wonderful speech from the academy and then presented him with a big check.....well the local newspaper was taking pictures when the principle got up and literally ran to get behind the check pushing my son to the middle of the check!!!! I have video and it is unbelieveable!!!

Now remember this is the same principal that not even a week before had agreed with the track coach and would not reinstate DS to track because DS chose to get wisdom teeth out and go to USMMA open house and miss track.

The principal wanted his picture in the paper with the big check.....there was nothing that benefited DS from this act, but made DS angry......It was like a Kanye West moment!!!!! Principal did embarass himself as everyone saw what he did and made comments to DS and myself.

On to bigger and better things.....but wanted to update Y'all.

Good for people calling out the Principal. And congratulations to you and your son. Your young man sounds like he has great amounts of integrity and a tremendous amount of potential! Our son too got a full ride ROTC for Army and 2 days later KP sent him his appointment. He's on an LNG now having been half around the world in the past 60 days! Thanks for writing and bringing back some happy memories!:shake:

Thanks for the update

Thanks for telling us "the rest of the story", that is hilarious, and I guess you would say predictable.
