Can someone explain to me how this program works, also is it possible to graduate in 4 years instead of the 5. And would it be possible to stay at home, since I only live 5 minutes away from the school?
 
The NROTC Prep Scholarship (NPS/NPP) is a 5 year program where you will spend 1 year taking prep academic courses at the college you choose to prepare yourself academically for college. This year is fully funded in terms of room, board, and tuition. After the completion of this prep year, you will get NROTC Scholarship benefits for your next 4 years of college. Taking the NPS route means at minimum you will be spending 5 years at your chosen college.
