NROTC 2013 students / parents

Swimmon2:

In general, society's expectation with on-line status tools is that they are nearly "real time."

I think you will find concensus here on this forum that the xROTC on line tools are less robust. Often, scholarship winners find out via U.S. mail that they have earned a scholarship while their on line status still shows "incomplete". I can speak from personal experience that this was the case with my DS.

They are updated in what appears to be a batch process. So often, you will see this forum light up with a lot of people learning of the decision at approximately the same time. Then things will go quiet until the next board's results are input into the system.

This lack of real time accuracy can be nerve wracking. If the PO says everything is in and taken care of, then I suggest you and your son sit back and wait.

Good luck!

Quick question - I'm hoping someone can give me some feedback as to the process. My DS submitted his application in July, had his interview in early August but now a month later his on-line application status still shows his interview and forms(the ones they sign at the interview) are "items waiting to be processed".

Is this normal? He has made a call about two weeks ago to the PO who has been extremely helpful to date who advised not to worry about it.

Please advise.

Right now your best friend is your Navy recruiter. He/she can move mountains in this process. My experience with the "items waiting to be processed" status means that they (Pensacola) has not received the specific item of input. Had a couple of these where the counselor/teacher could not get the on-line system to accept their evaluation. In these cases, its best to involve your Navy recruiter. Ours worked with the teacher who faxed the evaluation to him and he, in turn, faxed it along. In a day or two, it came off the dreaded list. The same scenario should work with the officer interview. The bottom line is that it is imperative that you get everything off that "items waiting to be processed" list. It is also in the best interest of the recruiter to get your application completed as that is in his/her job description(along with a bunch of other responsibilities). Phone calls are fine but make sure that you make a couple of stops at the recruiting office for a face-to-face meeting for obvious reasons. Dress well, be polite and make sure that you know what you are there for. Don't waste his/her time. The recruiter may or may not see your status report so make sure that you have a very recent copy with you.

Thanks, hopefully some people will start seeing a new status to reflect the boards decision.

Haven't heard anything yet, am going to check the application status once I get home. I believe I submitted mine too late for it to have been reviewed, as I didn't get it in until the beginning-middlish part of August (do not remember the exact date).
Hopefully it was! I haven't heard anything from anyone who's applied either. Checked again today, nothing's changed.

Trust me this site will light up as soon as 1 poster finds out their results.

Pima: will we know if ours was passed to the next board? Or will it simply not change at all if that is the case?

If I recall from LY you will receive a snail mail letter. I think some also received an electronic notification. Somewhere in the bowels of this forum are threads from last yr that will show you how most were informed.

Do not worry if you are not selected, some from last yr were reboarded 2-3 times.

Answering the original topic of the thread, I am complete with my application online and have my interview scheduled for this Thursday.

Can anyone provide some insight on what the NROTC interview is like? I already had my BGO interview for USNA so comparing the two may help.

Usually just some straight forward questions, can't be much different than the academy interview. Atleast I didn't think it was.

Dodmerb question

Just wondering when applicants for the NROTC will be sent for Dodmerb evaluations.

Thank you for your response. So if my DD just received a letter to complete Dodmerb would we assume that she is getting a scholarship? NROTC was the first completed application and she had her interview in June.

That is very different from my daughter's experience. Did you also apply for other ROTC scholarships or an Academy position?

She is applying for other academies, but nothing has been finalized yet except the NROTC application

Did your daughter apply to the USNA as well, I only ask because applicants to the Academies are sent there Dodmerb information prior to an appointment as part of the process.

Has your daughters status changed showing an award of the NROTC Scholarship.

I'm not sure how the Navy is doing it this year but for the past couple years the Army has been sending some applicants to dodmerb prior to the scholarships being awarded. Some of those applicants that were sent to dodmerb received scholarships and some did not. The Navy may be doing things different this year and sending some applicants to dodmerb early, things seem to change every year.

EDIT: Just saw your next post. Even though she has not completed the Academy application she will be sent to dodmerb as part of the process since she started the applications.

You shouldn't read anything into the letter. Generally the DoDMERB process doesn't start until after a scholarship has been awarded. Sometimes it's done beforehand but I know of folks who have gone through it beforehand, been qualified, but didn't get a scholarship. Sometimes the logistics just make it easier to do beforehand before things gets busy with academy applicants who do their physical prior to an offer of admission.

My DD was awarded the NROTC-MO (now a fish @ A&M) and we did not do any DoDMERB until after we were notified she had been chosen for the scholarship.

My understanding is that once you have submitted five or more of the nine "Required Application Documents" in your USNA application, DODMERB will contact you to schedule the exam. You may be able to determine who requested the exam (USNA versus NROTC) by logging into the DODMERB website, setting up an account and checking yor status.

If he's already talked to his PO recuiter, then I suggest a call to the NROTC office in Pensacola to find out if his application is complete. A month is plenty of time to wait for the system to update. With one of our mids, we had a similar situation and the CPO told him to just be patient that all was well. After he missed the first two boards, we called and his application was MIA (with no one looking for it). Part of it was still in Millington. It was located, reunited with the rest of his application and he received a scholarship on the next board. Had we not pushed the issue, he may have missed most if not all of the boards. The recruiters don't always have visibility on the application once it leaves them.
