Agree with the above. Just tell your story in you own way. I don't think the adversity essay is meant to be a test of your writing ability. It is not even required, and not every candidate has adversity to write about. They just want to know about you and what you have had to deal with. So, there is no wrong way to tell your story. IMHO this essay can only help you, it cannot hurt your chances of a scholarship. So relax and just tell the story.
