NROTC and Financial aid?

Back when I had my officer interview there was a moment when an officer stated if I received the scholarship I would not be allowed to use federal aid such as FASFA. However, i'm hearing contrary things on the internet. Can anyone shed light on this matter?

It in no way prevents a student from using FAFSA
