NROTC application question - paper letters of recommendation?

Dear All,

My son completed his electronic application and had his interview (which he says went well -- fingers crossed!). When he went to the local recruiter to sign some forms in their presence, the people there told him that in addition to the electronic recommendations that his teachers and guidance counselor submitted, he also had to have them send in paper copies. He has contacted the person in charge of NROTC for the Southeast to see if that is true (there was nothing about it on the electronic application he filled out), and is waiting for a response. In the mean time, have any of you encountered this? He's applying tier 3, so he knows that everything needs to be perfect to have a shot at a scholarship.

Thank you,
Trabi-Skoda

I can't answer your question because my son never went to the local recruiter. What I can tell you is he did everything via email/online form (including the guidance counselor recommendation.)

Thank you. DS went to the recruiter to sign some forms in his presence. The recruiter said that some things had to be done on paper, but it sounded 'fishy'.

There were papers he had to fill out prior to his interview. But those were all done at Great Lakes Naval Base in front of the Staff Sargent. He also went over the packet to make sure everything was done before we left. The paperwork was submitted prior to Labor Day last year and he did not hear anything until March 28th.

So be prepared to wait! Good luck.

There are definitely some supplemental forms required this year. These need to be printed and signed. Per the following website: http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/supplemental_forms.aspx

"After submitting an on-line application, all applicants must download and print one of the following files. The applicant must take all the pages to his/her Navy Recruiting Coordinator or Marine Corps Recruiter and complete these forms with the recruiter:"

DS sent other Letters of Recommendation (paper) he received

three letters from military officers that spoke to his intellect, character, and suitability for military service.

I don't know if they considered them or not, but he sent them anyways.
