Nrotc application

Congratulations!

Great news! My daughter will be class of 2017. Do you have any pointers for getting that scholarship. What school is the scholarship for? My DD is still trying to decide between Navy and Air Force. Why did your daughter select Navy? Any suggestions on where to find out more information on Navy nursing? Any information would be appreciated. Susan from Washington State

KP Mom,
I am not sure about pointers other than supporting them and removing as much pressure as possable. DD is very driven and goal oriented her mother and I were surprised when she told us last year that this was her desire.

She has not chosen Navy over AF yet. She applied for both but will not hear from AFROTC till the first of the year.

As far as Navy nursing she made contact with the closest base to us Millington Naval Air Station and asked if she could shadow a nurse for a day. They were very supportive and she said she learned a lot and it solidified her desire to serve.

Navy is not offered at her first choice school, Samford in Birmingham Al. The NROTC offer is to Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah GA.

Blacklab,

My son successfully navigated the Marine Option portion of the NROTC scholarship process. The Navy and Marines have separate boards but to give a sense of the timing I offer the following.

If memory serves me well, my son's completed application (interviews, PFT, etc) was done in late August or early September. We were told that he was reviewed by the first Marine board which met in late October. He checked the online status page daily and was finally notified of his selection on December 23. Roughly 4 months after submitting and 2 months after the board. He was one of the lucky ones. Some applicants submitted earlier and didn't close out the process until the next year's spring timeframe.

It is a tough waiting period - those who have gone before empathise with all of you who are currently in the midst of it. Hang in there!

The waiting is always the hardest part. I'm waiting for news on the NROTC/Marine option scholarship too. My brother was awarded the scholarship on the first board last year which met in October. The XO up in Raleigh was nice enough to call him and let him know he had been selected before he saw any change on his online status. That call came on November 3rd. The email came a week later and his status change came even later. I guess if your XO is cool, he'll let you know before any online changes occur. Good luck to all waiting. I heard that the Marine board met last Wednesday.
