Hi all,
As I'm sure many of you are, I am deep in the midst of my NROTC app. I was just wondering if anyone else is being contacted almost daily by different recruiters asking when you are going to complete your application? I've reviewed several emails as well as personal phone calls and even one personal visit. The applications are open until 31 January and they seem to want my paperwork by next week.. Can anyone provide some insight?

My son will be entering his sophomore year but 2 years ago we didn't go through a recruiter. That said, he did get a phone call from Great Lakes asking if he could interview in 3 days for the scholarship (end of August.) Their goal was to get all of his paperwork sent to Pensacola by Labor day (which we did). It is to your advantage to be early rather than late. They can only look at so many apps each board and they go in order they are received.

Even so, my son waited until March 28th to find out that he had received a scholarship. I recommend a lot of patience!

Good luck!

Go head and do it asap. I completed mine at the mid of July and I got ISR as well as scholarship at beginning of November. From my experience, you are in good hand. That is really a good sign.
Good Luck

It's just really strange to me that they're saying that the deadline is 1 July. I'm absolutely trying to get it finished as quick as possible, but I was planning on submitting it and taking my PT test around the end of the summer, so I'm really confused and really rushed. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Hey, I don;t think the app deadline is 1 july lol, that is ridiculous because the apps actually opened up just this month!
Anyways, I am in the dallas, texas area and I have actually completed my application and turned it, I just have to e-mail my recruiter my PFT. I have submitted SAT's, transcript - but my counselor still has to fill out my recommendation.
I find this totally strange and unsettling because not a single soul has reached out to me during this process. I had to actually e-mail my recruiter and tell him I existed and would be turning in my app soon. He told me he looked forward to working with me, but so far I have been the one starting conversations and actually moving the wheels in the process.
Should I be concerned? My scores ARE competitive, if that matters here.

I mean I don't consider myself ALL that competitive, I don't even play sports lol. He says that the 1 July deadline is "Hard and Fast" for my application and it's really making me a little angry because my counselors aren't even working to get a transcript or do anything like that. They won't be back at work until 27 July... Are you dealing with an officer selection officer or an enlisted recruiter?

He is the NROTC Coordinator, so im sure he is the right person for this. From the way things are moving, im getting in all of my work - except the work that is designated to my counselors / teacher (for recs). I find it amazing that they just disappear and dont even check their e-mails or anything like that! Yes you are on vacation but please, still be in contact with the world lol!

See i've had contact with at least 4 different senior chiefs out of three different recruiting stations. I don't even know who my actual point of Contact is. I agree about the counselors though... Has your coordinator told you when the first board meets?

Nope! lol! I found out on these forums... these forums are my source for everything since no one else has told me anything else

In the past, they have said August but with sequester, there weren't enough funds so the first board ended up being September. I would shoot for being done by the August board but don't be surprised if the first board is pushed back.

My DD had warned her counselor about the insane amount of requests for transcripts and reference letters right before school ended required for academy, ROTC and scholarship apps. If you have established a good working relationship with your counselor, they might answer the emails during their summer vacation. Also get to know their office assistants and maybe bring something as a thank you for the whole office when you know they are working overtime. Flowers are always welcome. My DD's counselor has been having some family hardships, so we have been sensitive when asking for requests. Hope this helps.
