Hi,

My DD is working on her application for 4 year NROTC scholarship. She is a HS junior and took SAT's back in fall (early for Jr) to get an idea of where she was and to work on weaknesses. The plan was to take again in April and then Covid 19 hit and tests are unavailable.

So, my question is - what does she do now? Apply for scholarship with less than ideal score (she has taken 5 full practice tests and scored 100-200 pts higher) or wait until she can take them again (if/when?).

There must be lots of juniors that have not taken the SAT/ACT at all so wondering if there is guidance.

Thanks to all and hope you are well.

I'd say take a breath and wait to see how things play out. It's possible they won't even require an SAT this next cycle. I know some colleges are changing. Regardless you have 8 months until your deadline. I'd wait a couple of months to see if plans change.

I would also wait a bit. DS’s shot for having theirs completed end of summer. Each time, their recruiters weren’t even actively working on them until September. Boards don’t meet until the fall.

Ive also seen that some standardized testing is planned for summer months. So study up and retake them!

Good luck!!

Is she applying Marine or Navy Option? As a Marine Option, she can also take the ASVAB, which can be scheduled with her local recruiter. A score of 93+ would be solid for the board, and there are numerous ASVAB test preparation guides available.
