My DS was accepted to UCSD and is interested in doing the NROTC program. I was wondering how difficult it would be travelling from UCSD to USD to attend trainings and military classes. We were told that freshmen are not allowed to have cars at UCSD. Is there a shuttle or some type of transportation? Also is there a specific day of week that he would have to go to USD?

Your best bet is to have your DS call the unit (before the college semester ends) and ask those very questions. However, someone knowledgeable might pop up here as well.

OP,

I recommend that you go down to USD (host school) and meet with the NROTC/MO Marine instructor. Explain your legal career goals, and your wish to be a Marine, along with the fact that you have been accepted to UCSD AND Cal Poly SLO. You should receive much more relevant information to your needs in person. Again, you should also speak to JAG officers in the Corps and obtain their input as well.

I have been offered admission to both schools as a political science major. I did not receive the NROTC scholarship but my friend who is in the San Diego unit said that I could most definitely get the college program scholarship within the first year of doing it. Therefore, both schools would be practically free because SLO offered me a generous amount of financial aid. A gunnery Sgt emailed me offering to sit down and discuss opportunities as she knows I applied for NROTC and I filled out the prescreening questionnaire she sent me so I am hoping to speak with her soon. So my question is, which program is better for me? I want to do JAG Corps and I know there is no guarantee for ed delay to go to law school if I do ROTC. I am more drawn to the ROTC program because I want to be constantly busy and have the commitment of showing up to PT, etc. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!
I just stumbled on the following. Of course you may have already seen it, but just in case: https://www.marines.com/becoming-a-marine/officer/marine-corps-law-program.html
