Does anyone know the frequency and/or timing of when the NROTC Board meets?

DS is set to apply this week, and I'm wondering how his submission fits with the Board calendar. Is he too late? Also, does everyone who submits get an interview? If so, what's the time frame for said interview? I'm assuming the interview is a prerequisite before being presented to the Board.

Son applying to Michigan and Notre Dame, Schools of Engineering.

    Thanks.

He is not too late. He needs to get started now. They are generally once a month sometimes even every two weeks. They do not publish a schedule because they need to pull various officers together to do it... and those officers need to be available. Boards are held through at least March. The last might even be early April. You may not hear a positive or negative reply until mid-April. All this is assuming he is applying for Navy option. If he's applying Marine option there are only two boards and he is too late for the first. He should shoot for New Years to get stuff in for the next board. Keep in mind that time needs to be allowed for Officer interviews and PFT testing. Yes the interview is a prereq.

Just get it done ASAP while making sure it's a quality application and is the best he can put together.

Your DS is not too late, but hopefully he has already started the application and is well underway, as it takes a considerable amount of time to complete properly. It also requires recommendations and an essay, as well as the officer interview before the application can be submitted. If you are near a school with an NROTC unit, you can do your interview there. If not, your NROTC coordinator should be able to help you set up the interview. Deadline to apply is Jan 31, but get it in ASAP because the earlier you apply, the more times the board reviews your application. Boards typically meet about once a month in the fall and more frequently in the spring. If you are not awarded a scholarship the first time the board reviews your application, it rolls over and gets looked at again on the next board, and the next one after that and so on, until you are either awarded a scholarship or declined. You will not hear anything until you are either awarded a scholarship or declined. Declines seem to start coming out around late February and the process continues into April.

It's not too late but I would suggest DS be proactive and make sure his recommenders understand the urgency and nature of the recommendation. HS teachers tend to get bogged down with recommendation requests from seniors.

It is not too late, but the longer the wait the fewer "looks" your son will have. The long pole in the tent is typically those pieces he will not have much control over - recommendations, interview, etc. There is a line between being the squeaky wheel and a pest. In addition to the two mentioned schools, be sure he applies to three others; one needs to be an "in-state tuition" school. Each school will have a limited number of scholarship slots available, so the sooner he gets the good news, the better opportunity to have that scholarship awarded to his first or second choice. Work closely with the recruiter. Good luck!

an interview is a mandatory part of the process.

It’s not too late but I think he’s missed two boards. We were told there is one at the end of each month.

    Ok

DS has his application rough draft done over the weekend and submitted yesterday. He already heard from the recruiter (we live in Houston) and he has an appointment next Wednesday.

Very surprised at the speed of the response from the recruiter.

Thanks for all the replies on this topic . Much appreciated.
