Pardon me, but everyone has to deal with this and after years of reflection, it's no different than the normal college application process. Deposits are generally not required until May 1. Many kids don't know where they will be accepted until March or even April. They also don't generally know about financial aid until April 1. Many plans cannot be finalized until April even when a ROTC program is not involved. I know it's frustrating, but you need to lay out plan A if that can come to fruition, plan B, etc. It's the same thing you would do in the normal college application process. Hang tough. It's worth it.
DS did not get a negative reply on his NROTC scholarship application until mid-April. Because we had been diligent in working alternate plans we were still able to easily execute on plan B with plenty of time available to do so. Plan B wasn't so bad. It included a merit scholarship to his #1 college and participating in NROTC without the scholarship. He later earned an NROTC scholarship during his sophomore year. Things work out the way they are supposed to. Deep breaths.
EDIT: If you think of the NROTC Scholarship as financial aid, and remember that you don't generally hear about financial aid packages until April 1, then the time waiting for the scholarship doesn't appear so bad.[/QUOTE

Congrats! What did you scream? The 1st BRUTAL wait is over. DD just got notified as 4 yr NROTC Scholarship Recipient and it was placed at Yale. She screamed with "Joy" between classes!! One very very happy girl!
Maybe this article will help with the wait for the college decisionI went outside, took a deep breath and let out a big Texas..."Yee Haw"; coworkers were laughing pretty hard. I agree she will reach out to the Yale NROTC staff asap
I wonder which board these are the results from, last weeks? Just curious as NavyNOLA was saying those wouldn't be out until next week.
Make sure your DD lets Yale admissions and the Yale Batallion know that she was awarded a NROTC scholarship and it is with here first choice school "Yale". As far as ivy's go, ROTC may have some admissions influence at Yale. Best of luck on the next wait.DD submitted her application on 1/20/17, so it was from last week's board
Everything is reasonable to think about until you see something in writing. Good luck!We still have a "no decision has been made" message so we will continue to wait. Since DrMom has reported the receipt of a "you have not been selected" notification (sorry about that but glad the AROTC scholarship came through for him!), which is the first I have heard about, I am making the assumption that my son still has a chance on a future board because he isn't below the threshold at this point. Of course, still no guarantees of anything, but is that a reasonable assumption?
Just saying..#3 wants to be a squid but we are an Army and West Point family through and through. I have had to say only positive things about Navy ROTC and USNA all year. I think this boy will be a great ground guy and then a great FAO like his Dad. So the USNA application is still out there which keeps the Marine Corps on the table but otherwise army ROTC at VMI is an awesome destination. Good uck to everyone still waiting to hear from NROTC. The Nation needs people who want to go to sea too.
