NROTC Board Review Schedule

Pardon me, but everyone has to deal with this and after years of reflection, it's no different than the normal college application process. Deposits are generally not required until May 1. Many kids don't know where they will be accepted until March or even April. They also don't generally know about financial aid until April 1. Many plans cannot be finalized until April even when a ROTC program is not involved. I know it's frustrating, but you need to lay out plan A if that can come to fruition, plan B, etc. It's the same thing you would do in the normal college application process. Hang tough. It's worth it.

DS did not get a negative reply on his NROTC scholarship application until mid-April. Because we had been diligent in working alternate plans we were still able to easily execute on plan B with plenty of time available to do so. Plan B wasn't so bad. It included a merit scholarship to his #1 college and participating in NROTC without the scholarship. He later earned an NROTC scholarship during his sophomore year. Things work out the way they are supposed to. Deep breaths.

EDIT: If you think of the NROTC Scholarship as financial aid, and remember that you don't generally hear about financial aid packages until April 1, then the time waiting for the scholarship doesn't appear so bad.[/QUOTE

I wish I could like this twice!
After 20 years of this with my hubby we have learned that this is just the beginning of the waiting. If you can't handle this wait, the Marine Corps may not be for you.
Hang tight. Be patient.
I keep telling my son to learn from this and use the time to keep working toward making himself a better Marine if that's what he wants.
This is nothing compared to what comes next!

The 1st BRUTAL wait is over. DD just got notified as 4 yr NROTC Scholarship Recipient and it was placed at Yale. She screamed with "Joy" between classes!! One very very happy girl!
Congrats! What did you scream? :)
Now comes the wait for the Yale decision, right? From one wait to another. Good luck! Let the Yale NROTC people aware of this - even though they'll be notified, it can't hurt.

I went outside, took a deep breath and let out a big Texas..."Yee Haw"; coworkers were laughing pretty hard. I agree she will reach out to the Yale NROTC staff asap

FYSA, my beloved #3 received the following message:

Selection Status
We are sorry, you were not selected for a scholarship. You will receive a letter explaining other options available to you.

The good news is...he has an Army ROTC scholarship (and still has applications out to USAFA, USMA, and USNA)...I think seeking a Tier 3 is not the best approach. However, GO ARMY! HOOAH!

I wonder which board these are the results from, last weeks? Just curious as NavyNOLA was saying those wouldn't be out until next week.

These were the 6-10 FEB results. They were released earlier than normal.

DD submitted her application on 1/20/17, so it was from last week's board
Make sure your DD lets Yale admissions and the Yale Batallion know that she was awarded a NROTC scholarship and it is with here first choice school "Yale". As far as ivy's go, ROTC may have some admissions influence at Yale. Best of luck on the next wait.

We still have a "no decision has been made" message so we will continue to wait. Since DrMom has reported the receipt of a "you have not been selected" notification (sorry about that but glad the AROTC scholarship came through for him!), which is the first I have heard about, I am making the assumption that my son still has a chance on a future board because he isn't below the threshold at this point. Of course, still no guarantees of anything, but is that a reasonable assumption?

Everything is reasonable to think about until you see something in writing. Good luck!

Just saying..#3 wants to be a squid but we are an Army and West Point family through and through. I have had to say only positive things about Navy ROTC and USNA all year. I think this boy will be a great ground guy and then a great FAO like his Dad. So the USNA application is still out there which keeps the Marine Corps on the table but otherwise army ROTC at VMI is an awesome destination. Good uck to everyone still waiting to hear from NROTC. The Nation needs people who want to go to sea too.

The salt thing may grow on you. [emoji16]
Invisibly, of course.
We have sponsored many, many mids who come from Army or AF families, including SA grads. The DS/DD likes the idea of service, but on a different path than mom or dad.
The heart swells just as much. The pride leaks out of the eyes at the same rate.
I have a great photo of an AF colonel mom doing the commissioning for both her USNA daughters whom we sponsored. Their roomies called her "Colonel Mom."

My Go Army Spirit runs strong but if USNA decides they want #3 I will rejoice that he is living his dream...and being the rebel.

Husband and I are both Army and both sons are going Navy. Husband just can't understand why neither boy wants to follow in his very high speed Ranger boots...one son says says, "creepy dark forest," and the other says, "too much walking." I told DH, because no matter how cool it could be, most teenage boys don't want to do what their father did.

Makes Army/Navy games very fun.
