Daughter has been accepted to her first choice college and is waiting to find out if she will be awarded an NROTC scholarship. Her back-up plan is to do NROTC as a college programmer. While she waits to learn if she will receive a scholarship should she be completing and submitting the application to her first choice college's NROTC unit as a college programmer?

Each NROTC unit has a slightly different process. For our unit, we just ask for a digital version of the original application so we jave an idea of background experience. We don't turn anyone away from trying as a C/P unless they are woefully out of physical standards or if we discover they have a serious DQ issue from DODMERB.

I'd wait until March to do this unless the officers at the unit advise otherwise. The unit will probably not be thinking about college programmers until then. The process is fairly easy. Each school has an application which includes a simple high school sports type physical (on your dime). They won't send info about report dates etc until June, but it's best to have it complete before then.

The unit can give you more insight on their process.

EDIT: Cross posted with the good GWU PNS.

You're not wrong though. We aren't really thinking about programmers right now. And if there is room for programmers at NSI, they do need to do the high school sports physical if not DODMERB cleared. But it's a little early for all that. Might as well start planning the wedding.....😁
