NROTC Decisions

Yes, he would enroll in NROTC in college to be a college programmer. I'm not certain about recommendations but I expect they will want his college profs. By cadre, I mean the officers that are a part of the NROTC staff at whatever college he attends. They'll know better what he needs for recommendations and he could even call to ask now. My recommendation is to never use the local recruiting office unless there is an Officer Selection Officer there who would be far more knowledgeable than any recruiter. Recruiters are focused on enlisted and meeting quota.

BTW... if his PFT score was 267 and he maxed pullups and crunches, then working backwards his run time was 23:30 which is a little on the slow side.

@kinnem - thank you - this is great information. Wish I had found this site a year ago..... your help is very much appreciated.

That sounds more realistic time-wise - I remember him mentioning he got a side ache during the run which slowed him down - but he didn't re-take b/c he didn't want to blow his score on the crunches and pull-ups.

Pretty sure there's no OSO in our local office - the captain who gave the interview was from a different city. The staff sergeant who has been leading the local workouts loves having my son there - or at least has said that to me repeatedly - which was the basis of my question.

Again - many thanks - I've learned more here in just a few days than I had during the months leading up to the decision.

Well the Sergeant MAY be be able to help, I'm just leery of recruiters. By all means your son should continue to participate with the poolee workouts. Will help keep him motivated and provide a support structure.
